I IN PEARS WOMAN HURT IN
Some blight has been found In
green pear fruits, according to
C. B. Cordy, assistant county
gent. This type of blight con
stitutes a great hazard and could
cause considerable loss, the agent
said. He suggested that in or
chards where a scattering of
blight Is present, a thorough ex
amination be made for such
blighted pears. ' If any are
found, an effort should be made
to eliminate every piece of blight
and blighted pear.
In the orchards observed num
erous blighted pears were pre
sent on each tree, Cordy de
clared. They were scattered
over the tree in a pattern sug
gesting that they were infected
by a sucking Insect. If such Is
the ease, a small population of
the particular bugs could cause
great loss, it was stated.
Mrs. Millie Pettigrew, Browns
boro, was injured Sunday after
noon when a mowing machine
nearly severed one of her feet,
it was learned today. According
to reports, she was standing in
front of the mower on her
Brownsboro ranch when a neigh
bor, who was operating' the ma
chine, accidentally started it up,
cutting the foot near the ankle.
Several finger tips ,of her right
hand also were severed, the re
port stated.
Friends said Mrs. Pettigrew !s
resting comfortably this morn
ing and that it is expected the
foot will be saved.

Trading in stocks today fell off
to the lightest level in more than
three months and prices moved
irregularly.
Uncertainties over war prog
ress, the long week-end, and a
generally cautious attitude on
the part of traders contributed
to the market lethargy. The
usual week-end evening-up oper
ations and lack of demand
brought the irregularity.

The government soon will an

control policy which will lift or

This action is being taken, it

Milk Deliveries
Cut by Walkout
Kansas City, Mo., July 20
(U.PJ Milk deliveries in this city
of half a million people dwin
dled to a mere trickle today as
a result of a dispute between
producers and drivers over the
unionization of six contract
haulers.
Dairy officials said yesterday
deliveries amounted to approxi
mately a third of the normal
300,000 quarts. Deliveries today
will be even less, they warned,
with a virtual milk famine in
sight unless the tie-up is ended
immediately.
