RELIEF
FOR SHORTAGE OF
Some relief for the current
housing shortage In Medford
was promised yesterday by
George Coplan, Seattle, regional
director of the national housing
authority, who met here with
James Maxwell of the Portland
office, the Jackson county hous
ing authority and representatives
of various financial interests,
the Chamber of Commerce and
local lumber yards. The group
discussed the housing need in
this area, and Coplan advised
them that some relief will be
given soon.
The northwest district has
been allotted a certain number
of housing units, Coplan said,
but it is recognized that the
number is not sufficient to meet
all needs, and covers mainly es
sential Industrial workers, ine
housing authority favors rental
units rather than owner-occupied
units, it was pointed out,
and most building approved in
this area will probably be for
rental purposes.
Mark Goldy, executive direc
tor for the housing authority
here, said today that the public
housing facilities are practically
filled at present.
Rental basis on new housing
units approved and built in Med
ford will be established by the
national housing authority rath
er than the OP A, it was said.
CITY HAS VISION
"Without vision Individuals or
cities cannot succeed," Mayor
C. A. Meeker told Rotary club
members in addressing the
club's Tuesday meeting at the
Medford hotel. Medford citizens,
the mayor said, showed vision
recently by voting favorably the
bond issue that should make our
city one of the nicest and most
beautiful cities In this part of
the country.
'Every city has personality the
same as people," the mayor con
tinued, "and the personality
shows when the city Is entered."
"People make the city by their
attitude toward it," he said.
The mayor said a portion of
the improvement bond money
would be made available as soon
as possible so that preliminary
work may be started on the
more necessary projects.

war future, people who live in
glass houses might be any of us.
For the dream home of the
future will be a practical, eco

pletely of glass, according' to
Dr. Alexander Silverman, head
of the chemistry department of
the University of Pittsburgh.
A glass roof, glass plumbing,
glass walls, floors and furnish

Dr. Silvermarf predicts. Even
the mattresses will be made of
glass, and the glass bulbs that
furnish illumination will ster

No Fire Insurance '
No fire insurance or endless
coats of paint will be needed for
the glass home, and the whole
structure. Inside and out, will be
washable
But those glass walls won't be
an invitation for PPeeping Toms.
The wall will be made of hollow
glass tile or of foam glass with
a plate glass veneer. The foam
glass cannot br seen through,
and rodents arid vermin cannot
burrow through It.
Polaroid Window
The windows will provide all
sorts of possibilities, says Dr.
Silverman. For Instance, two
sheets of polaroid could be
shifted in such a way that the
crystals would lie in the same
direction to let light through.
