Bonds Out of Funds
So Income Stopped

(U.PJ Elwyn Hoffman, 71, decld
ed 43 months ago that he should
spend $18.73 of his $50 state old
age pension each month to buy
a war bond.

But last month a state wel
fare board worker discovered
that Hoffman had accumulated
more than the $600 in personal
property allowed pensioners un
der California law.
So his pension was stopped,
to his dismay and the wrath of
neighbors who had applauded
his purchases of bonds out of hi '
meager pension.
Hoffman's only alternative Is
to reduce his savings below $800.
in order to receive his pension
again immediately.
