Farm Help Force
Definitely Known
By Last of Month
Exact information on how
many Axis prisoners of war, and
Mexican national farm workers
will be assigned Jackson county
for the pear harvest will not be
definitely known until the final
week of the month. County
Agent Robert G. Fowler reports.
German prisoners of war from
Camp White have been assisting
in orchard thinning, arid several
squads have completed their
jobs. Thirty additional Mexican
workers arrived recently.
Application was filed last Jan
uary for 1,000 Mexican workers.
but it is doubtful if this many
will come. Many are now en
gaged in sugar beet hoeing and
pea picking in eastern Oregon
and Idaho, work which has
started to taper off.

the plants die.
