Becomes Bride
Of Ray Casebeer
In an afternoon ceremony at
the First Presbyterian church In
MoHfnrrl last Sunday, July 8,
Miss Paula Blanton, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Blanton of

bride of Sgt. Ray Casebeer,

The Rev. Harry Hansen, pas
tor of the church, read the mar
riage vows at 3 o'clock before
about 100 friends and relatives
of the couple. The church was
decorated with white gladioli,
lilies and baby breath, and
tapers were lit preceding the
ceremony by Miss Donna Lee
Ross, niece of Sgt. Casebeer, and
Miss Betty Lou Baker.
The bride was given In mar
riage by her father, and wore
o satin dress with long
train and finger tip veil, held in
nlace bv a crown. She carried a
bouquet of white roses

Maid of honor was Miss Betty
lw.cW who wore a floor-length
dress of white tulle and a Juliet
cao. and carried a nosegay of
white lilies and stephonitis.
Bob Davis acted as best man.
and ushers were Jack Baker,
home on leave from the navy,
and Steve Dippel of the mer
chant marine.
Before the wedding .service,
Miss Helen Webb sang "Ave
Marie" and "Because," accom
panied by Mrs. Henry Huener-
gardt, who also played the wed
ding music.
For her daughter's wedding
Mrs. Blanton wore a blue dress
with white accessories, and the
groom's mother wore a light
ereen gown with white acces
sories. Both had white gardenia
corsages.
A reception was held after the
ceremony In the church parlors
Sgt. and Mrs. Casebeer first cut
the wedding cake, and serving
was continued by Miss Betty
Rose. Miss Anne Scripter, Mrs,
Jack Bostwlck, sister of the
hrlde. Mrs. J. D. Ross, sister of
the groom, and Mrs. J. W. Mack
The couple left on a two-week
trip to the coast near Crescent
City, Calif., and on their return
Sgt. Casebeer will report to San
ta Barbara for reassignment.
Both were graduated from
Merlfnrd hltth school with the
' class of 1944, and Sgt. Casebeer
entered the army In June last
year. He went overseas In the
fall, and was taken prisoner by
the Germans In February, while
fighting on the European front.
The sergeant was liberated When
Germany surrendered, and Just
recently returned to this coun
try. Mrs. Casebeer attended school
last year at the University of
Oregon In Eugene, where she Is
a member of Alpha Delta PI so
rority. She plans to return to
school this fall.
- The Blanton family formerly
resided on route 1, Medford, and
moved to Springfield last year.
Many out-of-town friends of both
families were In Medford for the
wedding.

Miss Jeanne Deatherage, daugh

Klamath Falls, became the bride
of Bernard Piels, a son of Mr.
and Mrs. William Piels, Hastings
on Hudson, New York.
The Rev. George Turney per
formed the service at St. Mark's
Episcopal church, in a setting of
gladioli, white daisies and palms.
The altar was decorated with
white flowers and candelabra.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a white satin
dress with a long train and fin
ger tip veil, held in place with
white flowers. She carried a
prayer book and a white orchid
with bavardia streamers. I
Miss Harriet Hart of Medford,
as maid of honor, wore a pale
yellow dress with a cap of
daisies, and carried a bouquet of
daisies and delphinium. '

Calif., was best man and ushers
were Dick East, Berkeley, and
Ensign Charles Braley of Med
ford.
Mrs. C. O. Larison, Medford,
sang "The Lord's Prayer' and
"O Perfect Love" before the
wedding.'
Friends and relatives attended
a reception after the ceremony
at the Hotel Holland. Following
the cutting of the wedding cake,
the bride and groom left for a
short trip to Lake O' Woods,
Crater Lake and Klamath Falls
before returning to the Univer
sity of California in Berkeley.
Mrs. Piels was graduated from
Medford high school with the
class of 1944, and attended the
University of California last
year. Mr. Piels Is in his junior
year at the school, and is a mem
ber of Phi Kappi Fsl iraterntiy.
The couple will make their
home at 1802 LeRoy Street In
Berkeley.
Torch Club Holds
Picnic at Ashland
The Y. M. C. A. Torch club
held a welner roast and picnic
supper at Lithla park in Ashland
recently, followed Dy an eve
ning of informal games and sing
ing. Members attending were uer-

Rothermel, Wayne Oneal, Dick
Kennedy, and Roger Peterson.
Guests were Helen Rubenstein,

chaperones were Ben Schmidt
and his daughter, Barbara.
The club program for the re
mainder of this month includes
an Oriental dinner and talk
about China on July 18, and "a
bowling or theater party July 25.

little daughter, Karleen, who
have been visiting In Medford
for the past week, left for their
home in Oakland, Cal., Friday
night. While here, they visited
with Mr. Kunzman'a mother and

seas, and at present is in a rest
camp In the Pacific area.

riage of a former Prospect boy,
Norman Horn, and Anna Mae
Jorgenson of Denver, Colo., was
received here last week, The
ceremony took place at Beloit,
wis., on June ZB.
I he groom, a second class
petty officer In the navy and son
of Mr. and Mrs. Willard F. Horn
of Keno, was graduated from
prospect high school with the
class of 1942, and enlisted in the
naval reserve the following fall.
After his basic training, Horn at
tended Iowa State college where
ne ioor aiesel training. He re
cently returned to the United
siatcs from the Aleutians, where
he spent 19 months.
The young couple will make
their home at Beloit, where Horn
is enrolled in the Fairbanks
and Morse Diesel school for a
specialized course.

and Cheryl Talbot, and pinochle
prizes went to Nina Church, Ella
Lyster and Mrs. M. Nicholas.

ent for a picnic dinner Tuesday
evening when members of the
Medford Zonta club entertained
the Business and Professional
Women at the home of Edith
Gifford, 425 S. Oakdale avenue.

and gave short talks. A quilt
was presented to Mrs. Nellie
Swazle, and the evening was

of Judge Nelle Burns in Ash
land on July 6 united in mar
riage Mrs. Ada B. Coleman of
Ashland and Ralph Graham of
Talent.

Mr. and Mrs. Graham plan to

Neeley arrived yesterday and

Mrs. MacLauchlan arrived in
Medford yesterday from San

gineers. 'She plans to make her
home here with her parents tem
porarily, while her husband is
overseas with an army service
force. She is a graduate of St.
Mary's Academy, and the ser
geant was graduated from Mo
Gill University in Canada.
Arriving here with Mrs. Mac
Lauchlan for a week's visit with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wil
kinson, was Miss Patricia Wilkin
son, who is employed in San
Francisco.

Scene of Reunion
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben
H. Schmidt of 619 Ridgeway has
been the scene of a family re
union recently with the
Schmidts' two daughters and son
visiting here. '
Mrs. W. W. Trask of San
Diego was with her parents after
a visit with her husband, Lt. (jg)
Trask, whose ship was In port
at Portland for two weeks. Miss
Barbara Schmidt, who was grad
uated from the University of
California at Santa Barbara in
June, spent three weeks with
her parents before returning to
summer school In California. She
has a teaching position in On
tario, Calif., for the coming year.
Ensign B. Rodney Schmidt has
been here a week after receiv
ing his commission in the naval
supply corps at Harvard Univer
sity. He is assigned to duty at
Pugct Sound naval air base.

Plans Meeting Monday
Olive Rebekah lodge will meet
Monday at 8 p. m. In the I.O.O F.
hall, 221 West 6th street for the
regular meeting, program and
refreshments. The program, ar
ranged by Mary Cave, chairman,
will feature a picture, and Flor
ence Klatt and her committee
will serve refreshments.
Mrs. Wilkinson Returns
From Trip to Spokane
Mrs. John J. Wilkinson re
turned to her home at 714 Park
avenue last Monday from Spo
kane, Wash., where she went to
visit her son, John E. Wilkinson,
before he left for overseas service.

Oakland, Calif., for her marriage
this evening to James William
Grigsby, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs.
James William Grigsby, Sr. of
the Old Stage road. Mr. Grigsby,
an electrician's mate third class
in the navy, is home on leave
at present.
The wedding will take place
at 8 o'clock at the Grigsby home.
Both Miss Gunter and her
fiance were graduated rom
Jacksonville high school with
the class of 1944. Miss Gunter
is employed at the Oakland army
base.

Mayor Meeker
In honor of Mayor C. A.
Meeker on his birthday July 6,
about 50 members of the "Ship
mates" Sunday school class of
the Methodist church met for a
picnic at the Meeker home, 724
E. Jackson boulevard.
' A picnic dinner was served In
the yard, followed by an eve
ning of games under the direc
tion of Mrs. A. E. Brockway.
The group presented a gift to
Mr. Meeker, in appreciation of
his teaching the class for a num
ber of years.

Mr. Darby is now employed by

Visit Medford
On Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Davis of
Merlin, Ore., were in Medford
the first of last week to cele
brate their tenth wedding anni
versary with a dinner at the
Medford hotel Monday evening.
" The coup'e was married at the
old South Methodist church in
Medford on July 9, 1935. Mrs.
Davis Is the former Clara E.
Trefren, and was employed at
the Grants Pass Courier for over
20 years before her marriage.
Guests at the dinner were Mr.
Davis' brother and his wife Mr.
and Mrs. D. D. Davis of Med
ford, and Mr. and Mrs. George
Russell of Merlin.

Angeles Bible school talked on
the youth of today and described
her work among young people,
at the meeting of the W.CT.U.
Thursday at the home of Mrs.
Everett Finley on Ross Lane.
Following a picnic luncheon,
the program was presented, with
music by Dorothy Shroyer and
Arletha Knutson. Devotional
services were read by Mrs.
Frank Alberts.
Several visitors were present,
and Dr. Susie Standard presided
at the meeting.

were played by Miss Carol Davis
on the accordian. .
The couple was attended by
Mrs. Frances Bretbrunner as ma
tron of honor, and Leslie E. Love,
brother of the bride, as best
man. The bride was given in
marriage by her mother.

Mrs. John Dickey, Mrs. June

The groom has been in the
navy for the past six and a half
years, all but one of which have
been In overseas service. .'
Mr. and Mrs. Pfeile left at
evening for a two weeks' trip
to Lake Tahoe, Calif. They will
make their home in Napa.

Returns Home Sunday
Mrs. Frank Perl returned to
her home In Chicago last Sun
day after spending three weeks
here at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. John Perl, Coleman Creek
road. During hor visit, Mrs.
Perl was the inspiration for sev
eral social affairs . given in her
honor.
