SKIN PEELING FOR FRECKLES, LIVER SPOTS AND ACNE
PITS
A method of treatment some
limes used with success in the
treatment of freckles, chloasma
(moth patches,
liver spots and
other localized
areas of excess
p 1 6 m e n t a
tion) and the
pits left by
acne pustules
is the applica
tion of a chem
i c a 1 irritant
in Just the
strength neces-
am sary to produce
Dr. Brady mild dermatitis
or intlammation of the -skin,
which is followed by more or
less desquamation or "peeling"
which removes the spots.
Sometimes this treatment
proves highly satisfactory. Some
times it proves unsatisfactory.
In any case it Is a fifty-fifty ven
ture. That is, if the patient is
willing to undergo the treatment
without further assurance than
that, the doctor will give the
treatment. No physician can
honestly guarantee satisfactory
results. If you learn of one who
seems to make a positive prom
ise or guarantee you had better
give the charlatan a wide berth.
Formerly I might have taken a
chance suggesting here the name
and strength of a chemical irri
tant to use for this purpose, but
not now. Seems as though I was
never so fond of sleeping nights
as I am now. And among our
etionhzk million readers there
are always a couple hundred
who contrive to interpret the
simplest recipe in a way calcu
lated to give me a bad case of
insomnia.
In the booklet "Cosmetic
Blemishes," (for copy send ten
cents and stamped self addressed
envelope, but no clipping), I do
describe a chemical solution
which carefully applied to the
pigmented spots only and not to
the surrounding normal skin,
two or three times a day, will
remove freckle, "liver spot or
chloasma. There Is no assurance
that the spots will not come
back.
Freckles, at least, are funny
that way. Of the thousands of
children with freckles only a few
keep their freckles when they
grow up. I had eleven thousand
seven hundred and twelve freck
les on my face when I was a kid

and ninteen hundred sixty-three
more on my arms. The last
freckles I had on my face dis
appeared years ago. But there
are still nineteen hundred sixty
three on my arms. Probably my
face has been more exposed to
sunlight (ultraviolet) In the years
since the McKechnies stopped
producing Canandaigua Ale and
policing the basin where we
loved to swim.
Nobody knows why some per
sons get freckles, liver spots or
chloasma or moth patches and
other persons do not. . Certainly
It is not becauso of too much ex
posure to the sun. Certainly it
is not because of any liver
trouble. Certainly it is not be
cause of one's age or sex or poli
tics or religion. These irregular
distributions of the pigment in
the skin just happen and that's
all.
