rinsing ceremonies for the
filrl Scout dav camp, sponsored
by the local Girl Scout council,
were held Friday afternoon
when awards were given for
work completed by the 172 girls
registered this year, ui mis
number, 73 had perfect attend
ance for the full 10 days of
camping, and 41 took part in an
over-night project.
Awards for out-of-door cook
ery were given to 54 girls; camp
craft, 32; first aid, 85; wild plant
finder, 10; "my country", 33;
and second class award, 10.
In addition to the unit projects
Mr. Charles Davis gave instruc
tion In archery, and Mrs. Homer
Marx in horseback riding, using
horses from the Dodge's stables.
Miss Clara Hanley conducted
classes in table loom weaving. -
The closing program, attended
by parents, consisted of a three
ring circus with tumbling acts
by the three Brownie units,
seven to 10 years of age. Each
of the other eight units present
ed skits, contests, table projects
and drills. Assisting in the .table
displays and craft projects were
Mrs. Sarah Cramer and Mrs.
Lara Larwood.
- Mrs. Don Zeis,' chairman of
the' day camp, and Marjorie
. Hopkins, director, said today the
outstanding success of the day
camp was due mainly to the con
sistent continuity of the adult
leadership. Only the Junior high
group suffered from lack of con
tinuous leadership, they de
clare.
Philip Eldridge
Is Home Following
Release From Army
Following his honorable dis
charge June 27 from the army
air corps at Ft. Lewis, Wash.,
Philip Eldridge, son of Mr. and
Mrs. O. Eldridge, 804 North Riv
erside avenue, arrived in Med
ford last week. His wifo and
on reside in Oklahoma City,
Okla.
Eldridge, who was released
from the army on the point sys
tem with 140 points, served 32
months of five years in the serv
ice overseas In the Mediter
ranean theater. He was a T ser
geant with the ground crew of
the 47th bomb group. The ser
geant has been awarded the pres
idential citation, the theater rib
bon with eight battle stars, pre
Pearl Harbor ribbon, and the
good conduct medal.
Eldridgo graduated from Med
ford high school with the class

Good Samaritan hospital of a

VETS ELIGIBLE
Veterans with an honorable
discharge from branches of the
nation's armed forces may ob
tain high priorities for purchase
of surplus property to establish
themselves in small businesses,
it has been announced by the
Smaller War Plants corporation,
Portland. Any veteran who has
seen active military or naval
service with the United States
forces on or after Sept. 16, 1940,
and before end of the present
war will be eligible, the an
nouncement stated.
A veteran may not apply for
surplus property before his dis
charge, although the SWPC will
furnish information as to how
he may proceed after his dis
charge. The surplus property
must be used to establish or
maintain the veteran's own small
business, it was stated. A small
business or professional enter
prise Is considered by SWPC as
an investment not exceeding
$50,000. A capital investment
for farming must not exceed
$25,000 and'application must be
made to the veterans local
county agricultural agent. All
other surplus property applica
tions must be made to. the office
of the Small War Plants corpora
tion nearest the locality where
the enterprise is to be located
Veterans and others who wish
more information about the poli
cies and procedures that govern
sale of surplus property to small
businessmen may obtain it from

LILLIAN GREER
Ashland, July 2 Funeral
services for Mrs. Lillian Harris
Greer, who passed away here
Friday morning, were held today
at the First Presbyterian church.
Interment will be beside her hus
band and daughter in Grand
View cemetery, Glendale, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Greer came to
Ashland in 1911 where he was
editor and publisher of the Ash
land Daily Tidings and associ
ated with his son-in-law in the
Burbank Review. Mr. Greer
passed away in 1926.
Mrs. Greer, who was born In
Decatur, 111., in 1868, was active
in the Presbyterian church, Ord
er of Eastern Star and Woman's
Civic club as long as her health
permitted.
She is survived by two
daughters, Mrs. Harvey Ling.
Burbank and Mrs. William
Schulkc, Ashland. Several grand
children also survive.
