PREVENTION Of CEREBRAL HEMORRHAGE
Cerebral hemorrhage, apo
plexy, "stroke" of paralysis,. is a
bleeding into the brain substance
usually the
base of the left

or breaking of
a minute ar

incident of
long existent

or "hardening"
of the artery,
Dr. Brady a rterioscl e r

In most instances the artery
that breaks or ruptures is a
branch from the middle cerebral
branch of the internal carotid
artery. The bleeding, it must be
remembered, is deep within the
cerebral lobe, into the tissue. It
should not be confused with the
bleeding that may occur in the
meningeal membranes covering
the brain, following an injury to
the head or fracture of the skull
with gradual loss of conscious
ness from pressure of the clot on
the brain, coming many hours
after the accident.
Contrary to popular fancy,
there are no significant premoni
tory or warning symptoms in
most cases of cerebral hemorr
hage. With loss of consciousness par
alysis of one or both limbs on
one side of the body occurs. If
the paralysis' is on the right side,
there is loss of speech, too, as a
rule, because the brain center
for speech is situated in the left
side of the cerebrum close to
the centers for control of such
movements as those of writing,
and hence it is affected or dam
aged by the hemorrhage in that
Dart of the brain, consciousness
returns on the third or fourth
day, in cases in which recovery
is to occur.
What I don't know about the
cause and prevention of cerebral
hemorrhage, apoplexy, stroke of
Daralvsis. hemiplegia, fills many
chapters in medical books. The
medical authorities generally

details of the suicide plane. Be
cause .of its simple and cheap
construction, he estimated Japan
can produce thousands.
The plane now under techni

The bubble canopy-type cockpit

nearly 20 feet long and a wing
spread of 16 feet, the plane In
operation is attached to a medi

Then the pilot, a member of
the "divine wind special attack
corps" glides near the target to
aim himself through a rifle-type

rockets hurl the plane and its

of the arteries, arteriosclerosis,
atherosclerosis (this means, as
nearly as I can learn, a degen
eration of arteries beginning as
fatty degeneration but if you
say I believe all hardening of the
arteries begins like that.) Au
thorities seem pretty well agreed
that the causes of premature
hardening of the arteries are (1)
abuse of alcohol, (2) over-eating,
(3) syphilis, (4) chronic lead poi
soning, (5 poor inheritance
poor material in tubing.
So the prevention of cerebral
hemorrhage and hardening of
the arteries is quite simple:
1. lie a teetotaler. Anyway be
temperate.
2. Regulate the quality of your
food in an intelligent way and
you will find it fairly easy to
avoid overeating. Most over
eating is simply stuffing with
excessive quantities of refined
carbohydrates flour, sugar,
and things made from them
which never quite satisfy nor
mal hunger. Use plain wheat
in your everyday diet.
3. Prevention of syphilis, chron
ic lead poisoning and poor in
