Thin Peaches Soon
For Most Benefit
Peaches should be thinned
soon in order to obtain tne
greatest benefit from the thin
ning. How much to thin is al
ways the big question ana easy
answers are not available. It Is
known however that it requires
25 or 30 leaves to produce one
fruit. Large leaves produce
more than small ones.
Tf vnti hava many trees to
thin It will pay to spend a little
time counting leaves on a iow
branches. This will enable you
to estimate closely the leaves
up fruit This Is the only exact
way to be sure you are thinning
properly. Heavier thinning will
reduce the tonnage but increase
the size of the individual iruits.
Tha frnirn nrn ftnaced as unt-
formly over the tree as possible.
Where mill is pieniuui oniy w
fruit is left on each spur. It is
hst in leave more fruits near
the base of shoots and on the
larger wood and tnln more
heavily on shoot tips and the
nu nt lnnff limbs. This will
help reduce breakage to some
extent.
