Decorated Truck Aids Sale
Of War Bonds
Engaged In the double lob of
boosting war bond sales while
delivering wartime freight,
decorated truck of the Pacific
Motor Trucking Company will
arrive here today. Its assistance
to local war bond committees
has been offered by J. E. Skof-
stad, northern district manager
for the trucking company. He
plans to keep the truck in this
city until midday tomorrow after
which it will appear in Ashland.

perintendent J. P. Jewett.
Miss Marjory Howsley was
valedictorian and Miss Willa Sul
livan salutatorian,
Ben H. Schmidt, general sec
retary, Y. M. C. A. of Medford
gave an address on "Widening
Circles." Invocation was offered
by E. Gilbert Cays, minister of
the Church of Christ, and the
benediction was pronounced by
Rolf H. Hansen, minister of the
Federated Church.
The Central Point school or
chestra and girls chorus each
presented several numbers, un
der direction of Harry L. Meyers.
Helene Blumenstein was accom
panist for the chorus.

When the Medford public li
brary was erected in 1912 it
held but 2,815 volumes com
pared to 38.000 at present ac
cording (to E. Fay Woolsey, li
brarian, who commented this
week on the proposal of the city
council to remodel and enlarge
the building. One of the six pro
positions to be voted on at a spe
cial election June 12 is that of a
bond issue of $102,000 for the
library enlargement.
Circulation in 1912 was 26,
727, Miss Woolsey's figures
show, for a population of 8000
persons, while the 38,000 vol
umes now owned by the system
are serving an ever-increasing
population with a high peak cir
culation of 220,000 already at
tained. "We feel that post-war days
will bring increased demands in
all fields but especially in sci
ence and technology, and that
these sections especially should

an average daily attendance at
the library of about 350 per

by fire today near Vancouver,
including its cargo of 70 cases
containing 80 pounds of butter

Gets Purple Heart
For Battle Wounds
Word has been received by Mr.
and Mrs. J. B. Meehan of Griffin
Creek that their son Sgt. Myron
B. Meehan, has been issued the
purple heart for wounds re
ceived in action In France and
according to a letter received
from his division chaplain has
been awarded the bronze star for
outstanding ability and courage
demonstrated while at his post
of duty.
He also wears the silver
wreath composed of oak leaves,
cross and stretcher designed only
for front line medics.
