The U. S. court of appeals today
upheld Equire Magazine's sec
ond class miling privileges and
denounced the post office de
partment's "attempt to compel
acceptance of its literary or
moral standards.
Postmaster General Frank C.
Walker, who will be replaced
July 1 by Democratic National
Chairman Robert E. Hannegan,
had suspended Esquire's second
class mailing privileges. The
post office held that the maga

other material were morally
substandard, and a district court
upheld its ruling. .
The appeals court, however,
reversed this decision. It said
censorship, freedom of the press,
and freedom of competitive en
