I shall not even mention any
specific trouble of serious nature
here. That is a matter best left
for the attending' physician's
judgment I say merely that to
the best of my knowledge if a
oatlent suffers more than mo-
mentary discomfort from what
purports to be "gas" pressure the
patient needs prompt medical
attention and not any mockey-
ing with kerosene, turpentine,
salts, saleratus, castor oil, enema
or other veterinarian experimen
tation. ' - . .
Even If a mere accumulation
of gas In stomach or intestine
could account for more than mo
mentary or minor discomfort the
trouble scarcely warrant con
cern. The truth Is that what many
' individuals with chronic Inflam
mation of the gall - bladder
(cholecystitis), with or without
gallstones call "gas attacks" are
actually attacks of biliary colic,
and if distension of stomach or
intestine with gas occurs It Is an
effect of the colic (muscle

People with biliary colic often

With the Fifth Army, Italy-
Sometimes In combat when con
ditions aren't conducive to Sun
day dinners it takes imagination
and ingenuity to produce "extra
specials on a menu. Men In
Company B, 316th Engineers, of
the 5th army's 91st "Powder
River" division in Italy, say
StaJ Sergeant Ernest C. McLes-
key. of Medford, Oregon, has
what It takes.
Sergeant McLeskey, whose
wife, Mrs. Inez McLeskey, re
sides at 804 Cedar street, Med
ford, has been mess sergeant of
the company since the 91st di
vision was activated at Camp
White, Oregon, in 1942.
Recently, stumped for some
thing to "dress up" a meal for
his outfit, Sergeant McLeskey
searched through his rations
trailer. He opened some C ra
tions, extracted the hard-tack
biscuits, took out some ice cream
powder he'd never found use for
before, and set to work. He
made a cream sauce from the
powder, and spread it on the C
ration biscuits.
That evening, having eaten
McLeskey's latest dessert, the
engineers yelled for seconds.
