READY MAY 25
Preliminary plans for the an
nual sale of "Buddy" poppies by
the Veterans of Foreign Wars
are bei g made in Medford by
members of Crater Lake Post
No. 1833, Commander Victor
Robb states. The sale will be
held here May 25 and 26.
President Indications are that
15 million poppies will be sold
throughout the nation, Com
mander Robb states, and if this
is accomplished, this will be an
all-time record for the Veterans.
Every cent collected through
sale of the poppies will be used
in the rehabiliation program for
men wounded in this war as
well as those who fought in pre
vious wars, Robb emphasizes.
The sale also makes possible the
VFW program of assistance to'
veterans' dependents, including
widows and orphans.
For 23 years the VFW has car
ried on the sales program Just
before Memorial Day and be
cause of this, Commander Robb
points out that the "Buddy" pro
gram has but one aim," the com
mander states, "to honoi the
dead by helping the living."
Counly DAV Body
Urges Support of
Dependency Bill
Jackson county chapter of Dis
abled American Veterans, in a
recent telegram to Congressman
Harris Ellsworth, urged his sup
port of H. R. bill 1872, which
would provide larger dependen
cy allowances for service-disabled
veterans with families.
The bill is part of a legislative
program sponsored by the DAV
national organization.
At the present time, compen
sation for permanent service
incurred disability is based en
tirely upon the disability Itself,
without regard to the number of
people who may be dependent
upon the handicapped veteran
for support.
The bill would make the pres
ent disability pension the base
rate for a veteran without de
pendents and would give addi
tional allowances based on the
size of his family.
Under terms of the bill, a to
tally disabled veteran would re
ceive dependency allowances at
the rate of $25 per month for his
wife, $15 for one child, $12 for
the second child and $10 for each
additional child or dependent
parent. Veterans rated less than
100 disabled would receive
proportionate allowances.

Oslo, Norway, May 16 (U.R)
Vidkun Quisling, the world's
most famous traitor, is cleaning
the toilets of Oslo's biggest pris

The informant, one of the only
six men who have seen the arch
traitor since he surrendered six
days ago, said Quisling has been
given the most menial tasks at
the prison at Moellergaten 19.
Watching for cuts, bruises and

MILES-OF-SAFETY
ON RIVERSIDES!
Today, Riversides are even stronger ;:; 12
stronger ... than our super-safe, pre-war River
sides. Every ply is stronger because each Individ
ual cord is stronger to begin with. Each cord is then
chemically strengthened in an impurity-removing
bath to make it -fay stronger longer! But that
only half-explains Riversides' greater built-in
strength I The cords are next immersed in a bond
ing solution which "welds" them together. In the
final operation, the cords are imbedded between
two layers of synthetic rubber. THE RESULT:
A Riverside ply ... a 12 stronger ply ; : : ready
to be cemented to similar plies to make a "locked
together" extra-safe Riverside tire-body I It's this
built-in strength that insures your getting MORE
