The house today passed and gent
to the senate legislation grant
ing permanent pay increases to
post office employes. The vote
was 390 to 1.
If approved by the senate the
measure would provide the first
adjustment in basic pay rates of
postal employes since 1925.
It would give each regular
employe a 20 per cent pay in
crease, but not to be less than
$300 nor to exceed $400. Cost
of the proposal v.-as estimated at
$150,000,000 over the fiscal year
ending June 30, 1944.
The measure would replace a
temporary act expiring July 1
which was approved May 1,
1943, and gave each employe an
annual $300 bonus.
