    BECK FAMILY IS
TOGETHER AFTER
NEARLY 4 YEARS
With the arrival home this
week of the daughter, son and
son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs.
Michael Beck, Old Stage Road,
all six members of the family
are together for the first time
since Dec. 18, 1941. Here are
Cpl. LaMurle Beck Witt, Wac;
her husband, First Lt. Richard
Witt, home after 38 months con
tinuous service in the Southwest
Pacific, and the Becks' son, Sgt.
Alfred M. Beck. Sith member
of the family is another daugh
ter, D'Ann Beck.
Lt. Witt has been returned to
thu United States under the ro
tation policy and expects to be
assigned to a base here. He and
his brother-in-law enlisted to
gether Dec. 19, 1941, and after
training Witt sailed, as a private
with the first contingent of
troops leaving this country un
der a foreign flag, the ship hav
ing been British. This was in
February of 1942.
In the ensuing months the
young man saw service in al
most every one of the Southwest
Pacific island campaigns. He
rose to the grade of technical
sergeant and on Jan. 25, 1944,
was given a field commission of
second lieutenant. His last over
seas assignment was as an aerial
photographer with the Fifth
AAF. Earlier this week the offi
cer was informed of his advance
ment to first lieutenant. Lt. Witt
was educated in the Gold Hill
and Rogue River schools and is
a son of Mrs. Margaret Leeson,
Ashland.
Cpl. Witt has been in the
Women's Army corps for 18
months during which time she
served at the Pentagon building
in Washington, D. C, and later
at Ft. Sam Houston, Tex. She re
ports next to Camp Lee, Va., the
army adjutant general's school.
Cpl. Witt was trained at Ft. Des
Moines, Iowa.
Sgt. Beck is here on furlough
from the army air base at Yuma
field, Yuma, Ariz., where he is a
crew chief for a B-29 unit. All
three of the young people were
on the staff of Beck's bakery be
fore entering the service.

LET'S NOT FORGET
The Little Ones At Home!
BILLIONS are being' tent to every corner of
" the world to help restore the devastated
countries and to relieve the suffering of
men, women and children made homeless and
destitute by war.
That is as it should be, but let's not forget that
countless children in our own country some
in our own county face a darker future than
most of those prostrated by the devastation of
war.
We speak for the crippled children awaiting
admission to the Shrine Hospital for Crippled
Children, too poor to obtain treatment else
where. Their free treatment at the Shrine
Hospital is impossible unless we more fortunate
folks make additional facilities available.
Let's open our hearts and our purses to these
unfortunate little ones. Help those In other
countries? Yes, indeed. But let's not forget the
little ones at home.
