Well, this
businessman consulted his doc
tor recently, heard the doctor's
advice, and promptly forgot the
advice which was that the pa
tient should have some special
tests made. Mr. Wiseacre was
not so easily bilked, by golly. He
learned of a wonderful doctor
a hundred miles away who nev
er failed to cure such cases as
his. What his case was the
shrewd business man's physician
had not determined, since the
patient declined to have the nec
essary examination, bui, snucns,
Mr. Wiseacre knew and he
would tell the doctor what the
trouble was. It was plain
enough, for wasn't his chief com
plaint "gas" and what else
could you call It but gastric trou
ble?f Gastric pertains to the stom
ach the word gastric is derived
from a Greek or atin word mean
ing belly or stomach. So gastri
tis is inflammation of the stom
ach. Gastro-enteritis is inflam
mation of stomach and intestine.
Gastric ulcer is stomach ulcer.
Gastric has nothing to do with
gas.
Mr. Wiseacre informed all and
sundry that he had not been
bothered by the gas since the
first few doses of medicine the
wonderful doctor had pre
scribed. He derived much satis
faction from the smart way he
had avoided being "played for
a sucker." But Mr. Wiseacre's
joy did not last. Two weeks
later, owing to development of
a serious complication ha was
rushed to the hospital for an
emergency operation. His life
was saved. But birds of his
feather take that as merely what
they are paying for, and no par
ticular thanks to the doctor for
his skill or his courage In some
such emergencies it takes a good
deal more skill and courage to

HOPE FOR MORE MEAT
DASHED BY INSTITUTE

American Meat Institute today
dashed hopes of an Immediate
Improvement in the nation's
meat picture with the blunt ob
servation that April's production
figures for interstate commerce
were 400.000,000 pounds below
those for last year.
The institute, voice of the
meat packing Industry, said
moreover, that April production
showed a substantial decline
from the preceding months of
this year.

on the subject at a fully attend
ed meeting of its directors at the
Elks' club last night.
