San Francisco, April 21
(U.R) San Francisco restauran
teurs were highly embarrassed to
admit it, but they confessed to
night that they had no idea what
they could feed the delegates to
the United Nations conference
on International organization.
Like the average housewife,
the hotels did not have enough
points to take care of company
and said the Office of Price Ad
ministration contended it could
not issue additional points with
out revision present regulations.
Point-free foods, such as poul
try, could not be substituted,
hotel spokesmen said, because
they could not be found on the
market at OPA ceiling prices.
They claimed the unrationed
foods were disappearing into a
"vigorous black market."
The Hotel Employers Associa
tion of San Francisco made a
public apology to the conference
delegates for the' lack of "pala
table foods" on their menus.
"We feel the public is entitled
to an explanation in order that
the embarrassment which the
city will suffer during the con
ference will not come as a com
plete shock," the association said
in a newspaper advertisement.
"We regret that such a situation
exists in a city noted for its fine
hotels, but we have exhausted
all of our resources to meet the
present crisis."
In addition to the advertise
ment, the members of the asso
ciation appealed to their con
gressmen. The National OPA Headquar
ters, which promised to send an
Investigator to look into the
luituation, said it would make
sure that public eating places in
San Francisco would have am
ple food for the Uncio. It did not
announce, however, whether ex
tra points would be issued or
additional foods supplies shipped
to San Francisco,
