Walter "Sneeze" Achleu took
two out of three falls from Gust
Johnson at Medford armory last
night to come out best man in
the battle royal on tha weekly
wrestling program. Achleu
dropped the, first tumble to
Johnson's leg strap but gained
the next two with a Boston crab
and drop toe hold.
Billy McEuin was first man
eliminated in the free-for-all and
tangles with the Gray Mask,
second man out. McEuin put up
a good struggle for two rounds
but fell victim to head butts in
the third round.
Tony Ross was eliminated
third by a Chinese sleeper ap
plied by Achleu and drew Tony
Morelli, fourth man out, as his
opponent. Morelli gave Ross a
thorough beating to gain a two-
out-of-thiee fall decision.

Call To Army Duty

Catcher Walker Cooper of the
St. Louis Cardinals brother com
bination, said today that he
would play with tha world
champion team until his induc
tion into the armed forces April
30.
When notified of his service
call Just before the Cards took
the field against the Chicago
Cubs yesterday. Cooper said,
"That means me, all right, but
I'll stick with the team until the
last minute."
The big catcher was placed In
limited service classification
after his examination last year.

Salmon fishing at the mouth
of Rogue river has been excel.
lent the past week, according to
Al Plche, local authority on the
piscatorial pastime. Piche says
one day last week 18 fish were
caught on. spinners, sizes four,
five or six in any finish.
In the South Umpqua above Til
ler trout and steelhead fishing is
reported fair, bait or spinners
being the best lure. The road
from Trail over the hump is in
excellent condition, Piche said.
Catfish were easily caught on
worms at Squaw lake last week
end. Best fishing Is after sun
down, when limits can be taken
in a tew houri. These fish aver
age 12 to 15 Inches in length.
The road 1. in mid-summer con
dition and the trip from Medford
can be made in an hour and 15
minutes,
Salmon In the upper Rogue
are scarce at this time. The
checker at Gold Ray states that
only one salmon has gone up the
ladder the past week. Several
fish have been taken below
Grants Pass and average salmon
fishing between Savage Rapids
and Gold Ray should improve
within another two weeks.
Hyatt Lake is still snowbound,
Piche said, while at Fish Lake
the snow is reported to be 37
inches deep with drifts In the
road about six ' miles beyond
Mosquito ranger station.
Fishermen are again reminded
that the trout season is not yet
open in Jackson county (Rogue
river and its tributaries).) Open
ing date has been set for April
28.
NOTRE DAME GRID TEAM
SCHEDULES TEN GAMES
South Bend, Ind., April 20.
(U.R) Notre Dame's 1945 foot
ball schedule of 10 games, in
cluding meetings with army and
navy teams, was announced to
day by the Rev. John J. Cava
naugh, vice president and chair
man of the university. The game
with army will be played In
New York City, he said, but the
site for the navy game has not
been determined. All but one of
the opponents are holdovers
from last year, with Iowa the
sole newcomer to the list.
LAKES HOSPITAL EXPANDS

rine corps and coast guard pa

direct from ships and land com
bat areas for hospitalization and
reassignment under a new expan
sion program. Navy officials
said the Great Lakes hospital
will increase its bed capacity
and personnel to be equipped to
handle the large influx of patients.

In Double Suicide
Lawrence, Kan., April 20
(U.PJ A traffic ticket issued to a
15-year-old boy, today was
blamed for double suicide here,
Mrs. Edna Ellis, wife of a col
onel with the Ninth army in Ger
many, fired a shot from a .38
calibre revolver into her heart
today, according to Coroner
Charles Rumsey, after the son
took his own life last night.
Rumsey said the son, Otto
Ellis, Jr., died about eight o'clock
last night in his car, which was
parked in a garage at the Ellis
home-here.
The coroner said death was
caused by carbon monoxide
fumes.
The boy, Rumsey added, left
a note in which he said he could
not face a court appearance to
day to answer a traffic ticket,
issued for running through a
stop sign.
