Ed Heusser'i first pitching Job of
1045, a 8 to 0 shutout for Cin
cinnati over Pittsburgh, held the
Pirates to seven scattered singles
and double at Cincinnati. He
walked only two men. The lead
ing National league pitcher in
the earned run department last
year with an average of 2.38, he
got off to a flying start i de
fending the mark. Only one man
reached third and only two got
as far as second.
Other pitchers were "on the
beam" too, yesterday Paul
(Dizzy) Trout shut out the
Browns at St. Louis, 11 to 0. The
Tigers made 21 hits, scoring
three runs in the first inning off
Brownie ace, Jack Kramer, to
make Trout's work easy.
Rusa Christopher of the Ath
letics had to go 12 Innings at
Philadelphia before winning a
duel from Washington's 40-year-old
John Nlggerling, 1 to 0.
The Yankees for the second
straight day used a big inning to
beat the Boston Red Sox at New
York, scoring five in the third
to make it easy for Hank Bc
rowy, in a 8 to 2 triumph.
At Brooklyn, the Philadelphia
Phillies also used a five-run
Inning to beat the Dodgers, 6

The Seattle Rainiers and the
Portland Beavers belied the
promise they had given earlier
this season against other Coast
League teams as each dropped a
game before Jlsappointed fans
in their home town openers last
night.
The Beavers dropped a 2-1 de
cision to the Hollywood Stars,
the last place club In the stand
ings, while the league-leading
Rainiers lost to the Oakland
Oaks by 3-2.
At Wrlgley Field, Lou Novl-
koff's 400-foot homer won the
Los Angeles a nightcap game
against the San Diego Padres.
The San Diego club won the
opener 9-4. At San Francisco,
the Seals scored their second
straight victory over the Sac
ramento Solons 10-9.
Portland led by a lone second
Inning run until the ninth when
Ad Liska gave up two winning
runs.

Medford Mat Bill Tonight
Four of the toughest muscle
manglers now campaigning in
the Pacific northwest and a cou
ple of scientific exponents of the
game will clash in a six-man
battle royal highlighting Pro
moter Mack Lillard's weekly
wrestling session at Medford
armory tonight.
Tony Morelli, who drew a six
months suspension for dirty tac
tics in his last appearance here,
has been secured by Lillard to
take part In the free-for-all.
Others in the fracas will be the
Gray Mask, Terrible Tony Ross
and Billy McEuin while Gust
Johnson and Walter "Sneeze"
Achieu, the only smooth per
formers on the card, round out
the lineup.
Three regulation matches will
follow the free-for-all, with
wrestlers to be paired in order
of their elimination. First two
out will meet in the opening
bout of three rounds, next pair
out will clash In the four round
seml-wlndup and the remaining
two will meet In the six round
main event.
Lillard cautioned fans that the
Gray Mask will not be required
to unmask If he loses but will
be forced to remove his hood If
he loses two falls, not by dis
qualification, In the ensuing
match.
IDAHO WILL RESUME
FOOTBALL NEXT FALL
Moscow, Idaho, April 19 (U.R)
The University of Idaho today
became the second member of
the Pacific coast conference to
announce, the resumption of
football next fall after a two
year lapse In gridiron activity,
J. A. Brown, acting director
of athletics, announced that he
had been authorized by the
University Committee on Ath
letics to proceed with plans for
resuming intercollegiate compe
tition in football this year.
He added that no action had
been taken in naming a head
coach for the Idaho eleven.

BOXING CHAMPION
Mexico City, April 19 U.R)
Ike Williams, Trenton, N. J.,
held the National Boxing asso
ciation's lightweight title today
after knocking out Champion
Juan Zurita in the second round
of a scheduled 15-round bout last
night. .
The match was accepted with
bad grace by the 28.000 fans
who Jammed the bullfight ring
for the first championship bout
in Mexico's history, and Will
iam's manager, Connie Mc
Carthy, was injured slightly by
a flying stone as he walked from
the ring.
A guard of 25 policemen
piloted Williams to the club
house after the fight,
Zurita, who weighed in at 133,
was floored In the firs t, but
bounded up quickly to resume
the contest. He countered blow
for blow and the round ended
even.
A staggering right cross to the
chin in the second after one min
ute and 20 seconds of sparring
gave the 131-pound challenger
the title. A series of short, hard
punches prepared Zurita for the
knockout.

OVER GRIZZLIES
Medford high school's track
and field team yesterday won a
dual meet with Ashland, 81 Vi to
72 '4, on the Medford track. Ash
land took eight first places to
Medford'a six but the Tornado's
second and third place awards
gained the victory.
Gandee, Ashland, won the 100
yard dash in -10.7, Merriman,
Ashland, took first In the high
hurdles in 19.4, Whillock, Med
ford, was first in the shot put
with distance of 39 feet, 1B4
inches. Fullerton. Ashland, took
first in the mile In 4.53, Merri
man, Ashland, won the 440 yard
dash in 55:4 and Ross, Medford,
won the discus throw with a toss
of 122 feet, nine inches.
Thompson, Ashland, pole
vaulted 10 feet, two inches to
win that event. Merriman, Ash
land, was first in the low hurdles
in 28.4, Carter, Medford, won
the high jump with a leap of
five feet, eight Inches, Gandee,
Ashland, won the 220 yard dash
in 23:2, Carter, Medford, won
the broad jump with 19 feet,
eight inches, Fullerton, Ashland,
won the 880 in .07 and Carter,
Medford, won the Javelin throw
with 154 feet. Medford's relay
team won the 880 yard relay in
1.37.
The two teams will meet again
here next Tuesday in a dual
practice meet and Medford trav
els to Klamath Falls April 28
for the annual invitational meet.
