missionary from Egypt, win
speak at the Highway Taber
nacle Wednesday and Thursday
at 8 p. m.
Miss Christie will show mov
ing pictures of Egypt, Palestine
and Nigeria. Pictures also will
be shown of the world famous
orphange at Asaiout on the Nile,
which houses over 1000 orphans
and blind.
Miss Christie will bo accom
panied by Miss Earlene Burt, an
accomplished soloist and gradu
ate of the Southern California
Bible college. The public is cor
dially invited.

LISTED KILLED
. Mr. and Mrs. John Ehrk, 1134
Court street, have received word
from the war department that
their son, Pfc Keith C. Ehrk,
was killed in action somewhere
in Germany March 22.
He was born Feb. 14, 1924, at
Huron, S. D., and at the age of
12 moved to Medford with his
parents. He attended Medford
schools and graduated with the
class of 1943.
On August 2, 1943, he entered
the army ground forces and too'k
his training at Fort Riley, Kans..
and Camp Campbell, Ky. In
October, 1944, he sailed for
France where he spent six
months with Gen. Patch s 7th
army.
Surviving are his parents and
a brother, Lloyd, now serving
with the army ground forces
somewhere in the Philippines.

ASHLAND SLATES
JULY 4TH PLANS
Ashland, April 9 Tentative
plans for a July 4th celebration
In Ashland was drawn up at a
meeting of the Ashland Riding
association held Friday night.
The association of a bigger and
better rodeo and horse show and
laid groundwork for other events
to round out a full day of cele
bration.
A parade, with sections for
horses, kiddies' pets, floats and
other events is planned for the
morning. Band concerts in the
park are also on the list of ten
tative plans as are patriotic serv
ices. There will be games in the
park for the kiddles and a trick
mule has been secured to enter
tain during the day. An attempt
is also being made to secure a
carnival.
Committees for the celebra
tion will be appointed at a meet
ing to be held May 8 and will be
made up largely of local busi
ness men.

JONATHAN E. GREEN
Jonathan E. Green, 69, hus
band of Ada Green. Rt. 1, Cen
tral Point, passed away in a local
hospital Sunday morning. Ar
rangements are In care of the
Conger-Morris chapel.
ELINOR HANLEY BUSH
Elinor Hanley Bush a native
daughter of Jackson county
passed away at her home on
East Main St., early Monday
morning following a lengthy Ill
ness. A complete obituary will
be published as soon as the ar
rangements are completed by

ANSELL QILSON
Anscll Gllson, passed away at
his home in Jacksonville Satur
day. . Mr. Gllson was born at
Sterling Creek on June 21, 1863.
In his early youth, he worked
with his father operating a saw
mill In the vicinity of the Ster
ling Mines. Later he worked in
the mines.
On June 8, 1903 he was mar
ried to Emma Dougherty at Eu
gene, Oregon. Mr. Gilsoi leaves
to mourn his passing, his wife,
Emma Gilson of Jacksonville.

One-Day District Conference
Slated for Presbyterian
Church On April 17th
Ashland, April 9 The Oregon
Congress of Parents and Teach
ers will hold a one-day district
conference at the Presbyterian
church in Ashland on April 17,
according to a press release by
Mrs. John B. White of Portland.
Faced with the problem of
providing instruction in organi
zation procedures for new offi
cers, advancing the program of
parent education and of conduct
ing an election despite the rul
ings made by the Office of War
Transportation regarding con
ventions, the Oregon Congress
has planned a series of one-day
mid-week meetings throughout
the state. Program material for
all six meetings will be the same
though different speakers will
be used in some instances.
Program Planned
The program for the Ashland
meeting, planned to serve the
southwestern part of the state,
will begin at 10 a.m. with a com
munity sing followed by invoca
tion. At 10:20 Mrs. Katherine
Read, head of the nursery
schools, Oregon State college,
will speak on "A Changing Fam
ily In a Changing World." This
will be followed at fl:15 a.m.
with "Leadership From thej
Ranks" by Mrs. O. C. Ufford
Fort Collins, Colo., a regional
vice president of the National
Congress of Parents and Teach
ers. At noon there will be a lunch
eon meeting at which Mrs. Harry
H. George, president of the Ore
gon Congress, will speak. Intro
duction of committees will take
place at 2 o'clock and at 2:20
p.m. M. B. Winslow of Ashland
will speak on "Looking Ahead
to Education." At 3:10 Mrs. Mel
Hogan of Medford, representing
the League of Women Voters,
will speak on "The People's
Peace." Summary and adjourn
ment will take place at 4 p.m.

were enlisted in the navy on
April 2, placed on inactive duty
and sent home to await call for
