pearance of any trouble at all
whereas her ignorant and hence
prudish sister procrastinates
until the disease, if it is cancer,
is well advanced.
Through women's clubs
nurses' auxiliaries, social serv
ice agencies and newspaper ap
peals, 1.319 presumably well
women, some single, some mar
ried and with families, of all
walks of life, ages from 3C to 80
years, volunteered to report
twice a year for five years for
pelvic examination. Drs. Cather
ine MacFarlane, Margaret C
Sturgis and Faith S. Betterman
conducted this study. The exam
nation was Just the simple ex
amination any good doctor
makes to determine whether
there is any indication of cancer
of the uterus. Now 545 of these
volunteers have completed the
five-year period Four cases ol
cancer of the cervix or neck of
the uterus and one case of can
cer of the body of uterus were
found under adequate, prompt
treatment all of these patients
have remained well, 2 for six
years, 2 for five years, I for 15
months. In addition to the five
cases of cancer thus discovered

at the earliest possible stage
among 545 presumably well
women, 461 inflammatory les
ions were found, and 200 oi
these have been treated and
eliminated. Ages of the women
who were found to have cancer
were 39, 41, 34, 44 and 65 years,
and all had borne one or more
children.
QUESTION'S AND ANSWERS
Tuberculosis
When a person Is released from a
sanatorium or tuberculosis does that
mean he Is cured and cannot spread
the germs to others? 1 am concerned
chiefly about our children visiting a
relaUve who was in a aanitorium.

Answer Not necessarily. However,
a sojourn of -several months in a tu
berculosis sanatorium generally
teaches the tuberculous individual
how to be a safe member of a com
munity or of a household. Ask the
patient's physician whether your chil
dren should visit the patient.
200.000 Units of Vitamin D
My wife Buffered for years, off and
on, with pain In knees and back. Doc
tors called It arthritis, but their treat
ment seemed ineffective. On the sug
gestion in your pamphlet she began
taking 300,000 units of vitamin D 14
capsules) daily and within . the first

The primary grades presented
"Lady Bus's Garden," a delight
ful combination of songs and

sion the opeietta "Dizzy Baton"
was given by the upper grades
and included a well-trained
chorus as well as humorous situ
ations. The chicken-noodle dinner
preceding the program and the
food booths and games following
