DRUNK OR
My husband, writes an un
happy woman, Is good and kind,
but, oh, so stubborn. He never
used to drum
at all. Now ne
says he can't
help It, he has
to have it, and
every few
weeks he man
ages to get too
much. He save
it doesn't hurt
any one, and
it Is my (auit
if I won't go
and drink
Dr. Brady with him . .
Always when he does drink to
excess It Is because some one
said something to hurt hU (eel
lngs, or he thinks some one Is
trying to "put something over"
on him. . . .
(Mrs.
The unfortunate victim miiint
be describing the behavior of
a nine year old child, a spoiled
child.
If she can persuade her hus
band, perhaps in a sober repent
ent Interval, to cultivate the ac
quaintance of a local group ot
Alcoholics Anonymous, there Is
still a good chance to bring him
back to his senses. Let her and
him understand clearly that Al
coholics Anonymous member
are all men or women who have
themselves conquered the drink
habit or are at present making
the fight with the friendly help
of others of the group. Look In
your telephone directory or
maybe In the classified columns
of your paper for the address of
group In your vicinity. Don't
let the little boy shrug off with
the sneer that A. A. is just a
racket or a bunch of reformers
or a cover for something there
are no fees, dues, obligations in
volved. This woman's plight raises the
question whether the addict
craves the narcotic (alcohol) and
indulges in it In that cowardly
way because he is menially de
fective in the first place, or
whether the alcohol, taken at
first in an adventurous spirit or
a spirit of bravado or maybe
"socially", Impairs the higher
faculties, or say addles tho
brolns just enough to make the
drinker behave like, a moron or
a child.
This question takes me back
to the days when some nice kind
ladies organized us kids and
taught us to sing we're coming
we're coming a brave little band
on the safe side of temperance

CRAZYT
we now take our stand and we
don't use tobacco do you know
what we think that boys who do
use It are quite sure to drink
And that's precisely how it
turned out. Boys in the gang
who "showed off" by smoking
in defiance of the teachings of
the nice kind ladies seemed to
progress easily from that to
drinking they couldn't de
cline the first drink of course,
for fear they would be regard
ed as "temperance" sissies. I
believe the majority of those
poor kids were mentally defec
tive, If not morons, from the be
ginning. It does not follow that
I attribute all alcoholism to this
cause. At the same time I can't
for the life of me see why any
one of normal health and nor
may intelligence should ever
take any alcoholic beverage or
liquor by way of a social ges
ture or custom, or to please any
one else or Just for the hell of
It.
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

It Is possible tor a woman to give
birth to babies of both aexes ofter
one of her ovaries has been removed
