Seven cases of chlckenpox
were reported In the county last
week according to Dr. A. Erin
Merkel. county health officer.
Three were reported from Ash
land, two from Talent and one
each from Jacksonville and Med
ford. -
Influenza was second high
with five cases reported, four
In Medford and one in Jackson
ville. Two cases of diphtheria
were on the list, one In Oak
grove and one in Medford, and
one case o scarlet fever was re
ported from Medford.
One case of mumps was listed
from tin Howard district.

Yank Servicemen
Await Transport

Marriages between American
soldiers and Australian girls are
running into the thousands and
requests for transportation of
brides to the United States are
increasing, the Melbourne radio
reported today.
The broadcast, heard by Uni
ted Press In San Francisco, quot
ed a government spokesman as
estimating that 1200 wives of
American servicemen, with 300
children, have visas and are
awaiting transport. Several hun
dred already have made the trip.
He said there are about 5,000
more brides in Australia and be
tween 5,000 and 10,000 fiancees
of American servicemen.

IS SUED FOR DIVORCE
Chicago, March 21 (U.R) A
hearing In a divorce suit against
Sgt. Joe Louis, world's heavy
weight boxing champion, was
scheduled in superior, court to
day. The suit was filed yesterday
by the champion's wife, Marva
Trotter Louis, charging he de
serted her Oct. 2, 1942.
It was the second divorce suit
filed against Louis in the last
four years. A previous one was
dropped when the couple effect
ed a reconciliation.

Victory gardeners wishing to
take advantage of the free plow
ing offer of the Coca Cola com
pany are urged to phone the of
fice of the firm at once, It was
announced today. For the third
year the Coca Cola company has
made provisions for a tractor to
plow city garden plots as an aid
to vegetable gardeners.
March 31 is the deadline for
the plowing, company employees
said.

The navy announced today that
the American submarine Barbel
has been lost, presumably In the
Pacific or far eastern waters.
The Barbel carried a normal
complement of 65 men. All of
