licorice powder, powdered senna
leaves, fennel and sugar this is

pound senna powder, for it is
chiefly the senna that gives the
laxative effect.
Other than the mild laxative
effect of sulfur it has no medici
nal effect when given Internally,
so far as we know It is as nearly
harmless as a laxative can be.
The notion that sulphur "purU
lies the blood'' probably grew
out of the observation that sulf ul
physicks the ancients Imagined
that anything that' physicked
somehow removed "Impurities"
from the blood what "impuri
ties" nobody but the quacks
knew and, for protection of the
trade the quacks never told.

(U.R) Mrs. Virginia Jorgensen,
who numbered four sailors
among her nine husbands since
1931, today was charged in a
federal complaint with fraudu
lent obtaining ot servicemen's
allowance checks.
Mrs. Jorgensen was arrested
by the Federal Bureau of Inves
tigation and arraigned before
the U. S. commissioner.
Nat Pleper, special agent In
charge of the FBI office here,
said Mrs. Jorgensen's last four
husbands were navy enlisted
men and that the last time she
even applied for a divorce was
after her fourth marriage In
1940.
The charge asalnst her car
ries a fine up to $2,000 or a Jail
sentence up to one year, or both.

assembly line by a senator, was
summoned as a senate war In
vestigation witness today and
asked to explain.
"I wasn't sleeping," he de
clared. "I was just resting after

Watson was. questioned by
Sen. Homer Ferguson (R., Mich.)
who said he found the Negro
napping when the committee
members paid a surprise visit to
the Packard Motor Car plant
Friday night.
"Out at Packard we quit
work when our production is
finished," Watson testified. "I
finished my quota of polishing
two wheel cases at S p. m., so
I was waiting for the 8 p. m.
quitting time. I lay down for a
few seconds, but I wasn't sleep
