"King Neptune"
Theme of Dance
Saturday Night
One of the largest recent af
fairs for young people was the
"King Neptune" dance given
last Saturday evening by Med
ford Bethel, Daughters of Job
and the OeMolay chapter. The
clever decorations included a
low grey ceiling, green lights
and murals of sea scenes, a pearl
diver, a pirate chest with "pieces
of eight", an octopus and a cave
Refreshments were served from
a ship.
Bethel members elected Elmer
Kyle as King Neptune and De
" Molay members in turn named
Miss Nancy Swem as Queen
Neptune. The king and queen
. led the grand march and each
was presented with a bowl of
gold fish.

ed music and during intermis
sion Miss Dolores Stenerson
sang.

ni, whose wedding was a recent
event In Sparks, Nev., left Wed
nesday for San Francisco where
the groom reported for duty
with the navy at Treasure Is
land. -
Mrs. Gianni Is the former
Margaret E. Bowman, daughter
of Margaret Ross Bowman, 315
North Bartlett street, and H. L.
Buwman of Jacksonville, and
the groom is a son of Mrs. Frank
Zuccula, Central Point. The
Bowman-Gianni rites took place
February 27 at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. C. Lester Zahniser in
Sparks, with the Rev. Peterson
of the Sparks Methodist church
performing the ceremony.
The bride's wedding costume
was a light blue crepe dress and
her flowers Were white roses.
For traveling she wore an en
semble of black and white with
a corsage of gardenias.
Attendants for the bride and
groom were Mrs. Crystal Ross
and Ernest Bartlett of Reno,
Nev. :
Both Mr. and Mrs. Gianni
have lived in the Rogue River
valley since childhood and have
many friends. The groom recent
ly returned to this country after
serving as storekeeper first class
on the U.S.S. Louisville since
1940 and will now be. assigned
to shore duty. Mrs. Gianni has
been an employee of the Pacific
Telephone and Telegraph com-pany-for
the past four years.
The trip south was made by
United Mainliner.
Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Gian
ni was honored at a farewell
party and shower given by op
erators of the telephone com
pany in the women's lounge at
the company building. Refresh
ments were served and the
bride presented with a number
of gifts.'

Mr. and Mrs. Philip Brainerd,
Grants Pass, and is an aerial
photographer In the navy.
In recent days Mrs. Carter
has entertained at a number of
small, informal parties in order
that friends might hear the wed
ding plans and see Miss Carter
before she leaves for the south

Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Sanger of
Jacksonville announce the en
gagement of their daughter,
Bonnie Audine, to Cpl. Leon
Hansen, son of Mr. and Mrs.
H. D. Hansen of Poulsbo, Wash.
Miss Sanger is a graduate of
Jacksonville high school with
the class of 1944 and for the
past eight months she has been
employed at the Oakland Army
base, Oakland, Calif.
Cpl. Hansen recently returned
from 22 months duty in the
southwest Pacific with the
army. Prior to his enlistment
he attended the University of
Washington. '
No definite date has been
set for the wedding.

American Legion, the Medford
auxiliary will serve a dinner for
all Legionnaires, their ladles
and members of the auxiliary
this week. The dinner will be
March 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the
auxiliary club rooms in the arm
ory, North Bartlett street
The committee states that a
small charge will be made to
those who are not solicited In
advance.
The birthday dinner and gath
ering has become a tradition
with the local Legion and auxili
ary and it is the hope of the
auxiliary that all members will
join in making the 1945 celebra
tion another pleasant celebra
tion. .
