ville. The 362nd is part of the
01st "Powder River" division
with the 5th army.
Their regiment broke across
the Sieve river in the strongly
defended Gothic line and at
tained the top of Mount Calvl,
2,225-foot-hlgh mountain in
which the Germans had em'
placed artillery in tunnels run
ning 50 feet underground in
rock.
The outfit captured 400 Ger
mans and killed and wounded
many others within 11 days dur
ing this part of the drive.
The regiment advanced on
the direct Florence-Bologna
route, Highway 65, through
bleak mountains whose peaks
often were hidden in rain clouds
and fought In rain, mud and icy
winds.
The regiment was activated
t Camp White, Oregon, August
15, 1942 with a cadre from the
1st Cavalry division. The men
trained extensively for a month
at their first overseas station,
Oran, Algeria, and joined the
Bth army in Italy with other
regiments of the 91st during
last June.

lcdy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie
Shelledy, Canal Addition. Rich-
mon, Calif.,1' has been promoted
from corporal to sergeant, it
was announced by Colonel H.
H. Upham, commanding officer
of this base.
A waist gunner, Sgt. Shelledy
is on the crew of a B-24 Liber
ator operating from this base
to strike the German war machine.
Sgt. Shelledey's wife. Mrs.
Martha Shelledy. lives at 27
Newtown St., Medford, Ore. He
entered the army in December,
SGT. R. H. ARCHER
Declaring that he was "back
in India on a water buffalo diet,
with delicious dehydrated po
tatoes for a chaser" Staff. Sgt.
R. H. Archer of Medford re
cently wrote to friends here
Sgt. Archer had returned to
India from China, where he said
he gained 19 pounds which he
was afraid he would lose.
Sgt. Archer told of the
Christmas celebration at his
camp and commented on the ex
treme inflationary exchange
rates on money, stating that at
one time one American dollar
was worth 520 Chinese dollars.
The sergeant's wife and
daughter live with Mrs. Archer's
mother, Mrs. Wm. Grenbemer,
23 Rose avenue, and a brother,
naroia Arcner, resides on
Spring street.

TEACHING PLAN

Bible history in the grade schools
of Grants Pass has been invited
to put on a public demonstration
of her methods here Friday eve
ning at the Church of the Naza
rene, Holly and First Streets.
The program will begin at 7:30
p. m.
Rev. Fred M. Weatherford,
president of the Medford Minis
terial Association stated today
that the purpose of the demon
stration is to acquaint the pub
lic with tills type of work in
public schools.
He hopes that representatives
from the various schools of Med
ford will be present as well as
representatives from the various
churches of Medford and adja
cent communities.
The Rev. Edward Ashenbre-
ner, pastor of the Methodist;
church of Grants Pass, will be!
present to explain the mechanics j
of coordinating this new feature
in the public school set up at
Grants Pass. I
