The Acme Hardware Store
will open Wednesday for busi
ness and public inspection at
the corner of Main and Grape
.streets, according to A. R.

eral manager. Workmen are put
ting the finishing touches on the
handsome new store in prepara
tion for the opening.
Included in lines of merchan
dise to be featured by the Acme
Hardware company will be
paints, farm and garden sup
plies, plumbing fixtures, gen
eral and builders' hardware,
housewares, tools and sporting
goods. Among the Medford con
cerns participating in the build
ing and decorating of the Acme
Hardware store are: W. L.
Combs, Johnson and Graham,
H. E. Hawk, Trowbridge and
F 1 y n n, Brownie's Plumbing
Shop, Crater Lake Lumber
Company, Medford Millwork
and Medford Neon company.

A. R. Manno, owner of the
new concern, was associated
with the L o r e n z company,
wholesale hardware concern,
for eight years preceding the
-.opening of his ne-.v store. Five
of these years were at Klamath
Falls as bookkeeper and the
last three in Medford as office
and assistant manager of the
Medford branch. George Davis,
general manager for the Lorenz
company, expressed regret in
losing Mr. Manno and voiced
his heartiest congratulations and
best wishes in this new. enter
prise. "Mr. Manno has a thor
ough knowledge of the hard

Mrs. Swank, whose child was
born unattended in a carbarn
washroom shortly after she
abandoned her streetcar, told
police she had told no one of

The coming summer may be the
most critical forest fire season
since the start of the war, the
Keep Oregon Green executive
committee warned Oregonians
today.
. The committee has named
Charles E. Ogle, Klamath county
forest fire protection leader for
many years, as executive secre
tary of the K. O. G. organization
to lead the campaign against
fires.
Edmund Hayes, chairman of
the group, said that the difficul
ty in securing adequate equip
ment, the absence of most of the
military-age manpower and the
enemy incendiary device threat
make it more necessary than
ever this year to reduce man
caused fires.
' The anti-fire campaign will
start soon, Hayes said.
