A meeting of "next of kin" of
Jackson county prisoners of war
will be held at Jackson county
court house Thursday night
March 1, at 8 o'clock to hear the
report of a representative of the
Medford chapter of the American
Red Cross. The representative
will report on a meeting with 12
repatriated prisoners of war
from camps in Germany and
Japan, who accompanied by
army personnel, will speak in
Portland Monday afternoon at
2 o'clock. Any next of kin of
war prisoners are invited to at
tend the meeting in the Fort-
land civic auditorium. The re
patriated prisoners will talk to
any next of kin, giving whatever
information they can, to the rel
atives. The Medford Red Cross chap
ter is sending a representative
to the Portland meeting to bring
back as much information as pos
sible to next of kin of prisoners
who are unable to attend the
meeting. The general public is
invited to both the meeting in
Portland Monday and the one
here Thursday.
Purple Heart To
Sergeant Tuttle
On Head Wounds
Staff Sgt. Bob Tuttle hag been
awarded the purple heart medal
for wounds received during a
B-29 Super-Fortress raid on the
Japanese mainland Feb. 10 ,a let
ter received by his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. S. M. Tuttle, Valley
view, states.
The sergeant wrote that he
had received "a scratch on his
chin and a bump on his head'
and added that the bombardier
of his plaue had also received
the purple heart. The crew of the
Super-Fortress to which Sgt.
Tuttle is assigned is the only
crew of the squadron still using

the original crew members, he
wrote. The sergeant has made
six trips over Tokyo and now
has 116 combat flying hours.
Sgt. Tuttle hai been based on
Saipan since September.

Mrs. Ed Barnett, the former
Cecile Elizabeth Humphry of
Medford, was among the civil
ian internees released from
Santo Tomas prison in the Phil
ippines a message from her
parents to friends here Wednes
day night stated. Mr. and Mrs.
L. B. Humphrys, her parents,
stated that the official message
telling of her release reported
Mrs. Barnett to be in "good con
dition." Mrs. Barnett was Interned
when Manila fell to the Japa
nese and no direct word was
heard from her until this win
ter. Mr. Barnett, an employee
of Pan-American Airways, had
left the islands temporarily to
transact business in California
and so escaped internment.
The Humphrys resided here
for many years, Mr. Humphrys
having been an architect, and
the family left about eight
years ago for California. Mrs.
Barnett attended grade and
high school in Medford and also
was a student at the Southern
Oregon College of Education.

Names of Jackson county men
and women who will handle the
annual Red Cross war fund
drive, which starts March 1,
have been announced by Ben E.
Harder, general chairman in
charge of the drive. Quota for
this county is $54,000, the chair
man states.
Eugene Thomdlke, M. N. Ho
gan, George Frey, G. R. Green
and Charles Newland, with Mr.
Harder, make up the executive
committee. Ray T. Wright and
L. T. Wright and L. T. Nygaard
will head the special groups so-,
licitations and the business dis
trict solicitations will be handled
by the Junior Chamber of Com
merce, with Lester Higgln
botham as chairman, and a com
mittee made up of Morris B.
Leonard, Mark A. Goldy and F.
