TEAMS ADVANCE
TO SEMI-FINALS
OF 'B' TOURNEY
Rogue River, Talent, Central
Point and Jacksonville survived
first round play in the Jackson
Josephine county class "B" bas
ketball tournament underway at
Medford high school gymnas
ium. Yesterday afternoon Rogue
River walked over Eagle Point
to the tune of 28 to 18 and Tal
ent edged Butte Falls 30 to 26.
In evening play Central Point
had little trouble beating Pros
pect 27 to 11 and Jacksonville
turned back Kerby, only Jose
phine county entrant, 44 to 23.
In semi-final rounds tonight
Central Point meets Jacksonville
at 7:30 o'clock and Rogue River
collides with Talent at 8:30. Sat
orday night the loseri play for
third place, beginning at 7:30,
and the winners meet for the
championship, slated to start at
8:30. First place teams will then
meet winners of a Klamath-Lake
counties tournament for chanv
pionship of district five.
It took Harold (Blood and
Guts) Davidson just 15 seconds
to take the first fall over the
Gray Mask in the main event
wrestling match at Medford
armory last night but after that
he didn't do so good. After the
first fall Referee Earl Yoakley
examined an elastic knee band
age worn by Davidson and found
a lead ring concealed there.
When it was forcibly removed
Davidson had lost his main bat
tle weapon and went down In
defeat, losing the next two fall.
Gust Johnson, ahead with one
fall, was given the final spill
over Pete Belcastro when the
Weed Assassin refused to relin
quish a surfboard hold which
had forced Johnson to give up.
Belcastro took a lusty swing at
the referee when the decision
was rendered but Yoakley stood
'his ground and gave Johnson
the match.
Jack Kiser and Georges Du
sette went to a draw in the open
er, each taking a fall.
