Dr. Brady friends yes,
you did, Doctor, you said wlhed.
. . . Still I am convinced that
when Dr. Brady says one can
not catch cold from a draft, wet

from chonlc infections, and not,
for Instance, to people who have
chronic sinus Infection . . (D.D.)
At first, blush, Sir, I'm Inclin

of the pleasantest recollections
I have of that visit to Lincoln
is that nobody offered me or,
so far as I can remember, ever
served any kind of alcoholic
beverage in Lincoln. That was in
the era of prohibition. I have
always retained the Impression
that the people of Lincoln found
life endurable without the nar

sober second thought maybe I

No, if I meant that only nor

of draft, wet feet, etc., I'd make
that perfectly clear. I say one

HOW DID ELLIOTT
RISE SO RAPIDLY?
Washington, Feb. IS (U.R
Republican senators today chal
lenged Elliott Roosevelt's right
to become a brigadier general
after only four years of army
service.
The question was raised first
by Sens. Harlan J. Bushfleld,
R., S. D.,) and Clyde M. Reed,
(R., Kans.),
Consideration of' the Elliott
Roosevelt nomination was sep
arated from a list of 77 other
colonels to be brigadier gen
erals. Bushfleld then obtained the
floor, but yielded to Reed. The
Kansas senator said he wanted
to ask a question on behalf of
Sen. Owen Brewster (R., Me.),
who was absent.
The question was:
"Will the military affairs com
mittee furnish the senate with
information as to the number,
names and character of Instances
In which men entering service
with the rank of captain or low
er without previous military ex
perience or qualifications as
specialist have risen in a period
of four years to the rank of brig
adier general?"

Syphilis
Found out father had syphilis. We
are all married and have children. He
says he Is nearly cured. All of us have
had negative blood tests. When I take
the children to visit mother I do not
allow them to touch anything there
or to drink out of the glasses they
touch only door knobs. (Mrs. J, E. C-)
Answer Nonsense, if your father
has had syphlis more than three or
lour years the disease is extremely
unlikely to be communicable now.
There Is no more danger involved in
the children vtalUng grandma and
grandpa now than in their everyday
exposure to all sorts of tnfecUons. It
Is regrettable that you have inoculated
the minds of the children with the
morbid notion that there Is something
to be feared in their vislta to grand
pa. 8yphlla is communicable in its
early stage the first few months,
possibly .for a year but practically
not catching through contact or or
dinary association in the later stage,
from the second year on.

IN PW CAMP AREA
Washington, Feb. 13 U.B
Sen. Ernest W. McFarland, D.,
Ariz., today demanded a con
gressional investigation of re
ports that a truck carrying Ger
man prisoners of war drove
through the streets of Chandler,
Ariz., one day this month "fly
ing the Swastika flag.'
McFarland said the war de
partment had been asked about
the Swastika and other Inci
dents, "but the people of Ari
zona are not satisfied-with the
war department investigation."
"They know when they see
a Swastika flag flying from a
truck," he told the senate.
He asked that the senate mil
itary affairs committee make a
"careful investigation" of the
Swastika incident and of reports
that Nazi prisoners from Pap
ago Park camp were allowed to
"roam the neighborhoods, steal
from people in the vicinity and
pilfer houses where there is no
one at home."
"Explanation" Fantastic
He cited a statement by the
Phoenix Central Labor council
which termed "fantastic and
highly Improbable" explana
tions that 29 prisoners who re
cently escaped from Papago
pane "pored" a ZOO foot tunnel
through rock. All were later re
captured. Chairman Elbert Thomas, D.,
Utah, of the Military Affairs
committee, told McFarland, "I
will do the very best I can to
see that this sort of thing never
happens again within the con
fines of the United States."
