Brothers Home Ted, Morris
and Robert Jones arrived in
Medford last week from Los An
geles, Cal., to visit their mother,
Mrs. Jennie Jones of 617 North
Bartlett street, who is ill In Com
munity hospital. They were
guests at the home of their sis
ter, Mrs. J. V. Mason In Talent
until their return to the south
over the week end. The broth-

day advised dog owners to ob
tain dog licenses from the county
clerk's office in the courthouse.
The new licenses are now due,
he asserted, and citizens have
until March 1 to purchase them.
After that date a penalty will
be enforced for delinquents.

Transferred Staff Sgt. Bill
Lovell has been transferred from
Sheppard field, Tex., to Keesler
field, Miss., for special training
in the air corps. Sgt. Lovell re
cently returned to this county
after 32 months in the south

Mrs. E. M. Lovell, 526 Edwards

To Portland Mary Glasscock,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. How
ard Glascock, 233 Beatty street,
left for Portland Friday night
where she will enter the cadet
nurse corps' three-year training
program .at St. Vincent s hos
pital. She graduated from Med
ford high school in the class of
44 and was employed by a local
theater before her departure for
duty.
Returns From Navy Rene
Leroy Bounds of route 1, box
315, Ashland, was honorably dis
charged from the navy at U. S.
naval hospital, Farragut, Idaho,
Feb. 2, according to Information
received here. He was a seaman
2c and entered the service
about seven months ago. Bounds
was active in the Church of
Jesus Christ, L. D. S in Med
ford before hsi induction last
July. .
Here From Illinois Second
Lt. Harry L. Thurman and wife
arrived in Medford Thursday on
a short leave. They are visiting
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L, B.
Thurman, 722 West 14th street.
Lt. Thurman Is stationed at Cha
nute field, 111., where he is an
instructor in communications.
He enlisted If) the army during
his senior year at Oregon State
college where he was affiliated
with Sigma Phi Epsilon. This is
his first visit in Medford in over
a year and a half. Cpl. Lous
Thurman is in Holland with a
military police battalion, having
gone overseas last September.
A sister of L, B. Thurman, Lela
Thurman, arrived from her
home in Corvallis on Saturday
for a visit of a few days. Lt.
Thurman will leave Medford
Monday for his station in Illinois.

week on 21-day leave to visit his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. X. wld-
mer, of route 4. Quartermaster
Widmer has just returned from
14 months' duty in the south Pa
cific during which he was In
many major operations with the
Facmc fleet.

Cited for Duty Cpl. Warren
E. Fichtner, son of Carl Flchtner,
ois south Holly street, has been
awarded the combat Infantry
man badge' for action in Hollan
ds, Dutch New Guinea, his fa
ther has been notified. Flchtner
was a member of the national
guard, called to active duty in
1940. He was in the 41st division
in Australia and New Guinea
and last reported on Biak Island,
His wife. Helen Fichtner. Port.
land, is a Spar stationed until
recently at Palm Beach, Fla. Cpl.
ricnmer was raised in Medford
and, graduated from Medford
high school in 1939.

ment badges, and awards of

Last Rites Held
For Sarah Wilson
At Yoncalla, Ore,
Funeral services were held
February 8 in the Community
church at Yoncalla, Ore., for
Mrs. Sarah Isabella Wilson, pio
neer southern Oregon woman
who passed away February 5 in
an Ashland nursing home. The
services were conducted by the
Rev. Ward Rice, of Eugene, for
mer pastor of the Christian
church here.
Mrs. Wilson was born August
27, 1852, In Montrose, Iowa. Hci
family crossed the plains in
1864, settling in Portland. She
attended the old Yoncalla acad
emy where she was a pupil of
the famed early-day educator,
Jesse. Applegate. She Was mar
ried to John D. Wilson, on July
3, 1871, in Roseburg and they
made their home on a ranch near
Yoncalla.
Immediate survivors include
three children,' Mrs. Mabel Wil
son Klemm, Medford; David C.
Wilson, Yoncalla, and plive I.
Wilson, Klamath Fans.

AUTO VIOLATION
Ted M. Sletten, 17, was fined
in local court today for viola
tion of an instruction permit to
drive an automobile, after be
ing involved in an automobile
collision late Friday night at
tne ueatty and Edwards Inter
section, police reported Satur
day. The accident caused dam
age to both ears, estimated at
several hundred dollars, in a re
port filed later. Russell P. Jen
sen, a sailor, of Route 1,. Box
231, was driving the other car
and Willa Mae Tower, a passen
ger sustained a sprained left
shoulder, according to state
ments made in an accident re
port. Another passenger report
edly In a dazed condition after
the collision was escorted to his
home by police officers, the de
partment said.
Officers investigating th
scene of the accident reported
the Jensen car had also struck
a tree about 50 feet from the
point of impact with the Sletten
car and rolled over, coming to
rest about 30 feet farther down
the street.
