Temple To Meet A stated

Medford Sunday and la a guest
of his father, T. M. Kurtz, 204

Ask For Pears All Pythian
sisters are asked to take dona
tions of canned pears to the
Knights of Pythias hall, tomor
row, February 8, between 1 and
3 p. m. The fruit will be sent to
the Pythian home, officers state.
Wives To Meet A second
luncheon meeting of the newly
organized officers' wives group
will be held at the Outpost Sat
urday at 1 p. m. it was stated
today. The new group is for lo
cal officers' wives whose per
manent residence is Medford or
whose husbands' permanent ad
dress is Medford. Reservations
are to be made with Mrs. Donald
D. Byington and Mrs. Stanley H.

Former Medforites Here
Warren Law, chief storekeeper,
navy, and former resident of
Medford was here today to visit
friends after 18 months of over
seas duty In the Pacific. Law is
the son of the late O. J. Law and
Mrs. LaW. The family lived here
until 1933. He graduated from
Medford high school in 1937.
Law wears a silver star which
represents five engagements in
the Pacific theater and a bronze
star for duty overseas before
December 7, 1941. He has served
seven years in the navy. His
mother is now making her home
In Alsea, where he visited dur
ing this 30 day leave. Law will
report to Bremerton, Wash.,
navy reassignment center in a
few days for duty. A brother.
Hamilton Law, is a sergeant in
the army signal corps serving
In the Aleutian Islands.

posted $10 bail in local court
for being drunk on a public
street
Returns To Duty Pvt. Rob
ert W. Holifield planned to
leave tonight for Sioux Falls,
S. D., where he is stationed with
the air corps radio school. For
the past 10 days he has been a
visitor at the home of his moth
er, Mrs. Hazel C. Holifield,
Route 1, Central Point, and in
Medford at the residence of his
sister, Mrs. Maxine Dungey, 816
Franquette Street. It was the
service man's first visit home
in about a year. '
Hears From Son First letter
in 14 weeks was received this
week by Mrs. Maude Hall, 243
North Holly street, from her
son, Sgt. Charles L. Devine.
Sgt. Devine stated that he had
arrived on Palau In the Caro
line Islands, adding that he was
well and almost as black as the
natives. Mrs. Hall's son-in-law,
William T. Rutherford, formerly
with the First National bank
here, is now stationed on Guam
in a navy disbursing office. -
Son Visiting Arriving here
Sunday night from Norfolk, Va.
navy base, Robert Lee Akins,
MOMMlo is visiting his mother,
Mrs. Marie Main here. Akins
also visited relatives in Bend
before coming here. He has re
turned from duty on a sub
chaser in Atlantic and South
American waters, completing
more than two years of service
and wears battle ribbons from
both theaters. Akins is one of
four sons of Mrs. Main, all in
the navy. Vernon R., R lc, is
stationed at Oceanside, Calif.,
Frederick A., AM 2c, at present
at naval airbase at Areata.
Calif., and Richard D AS, lo
cated at Shoemaker, Calif. All
have served overseas with the
exception of Richard Akin.

FUchtner Leaves Pvt. Earl
E. Fichtner left for Ft. Ord,
Calif., last night after visiting
here with his father, Carl Ficht
ner, 613 South Holly street. Pvt.
Fichtner came here from Port
land, where he spent part of his
furlough time with his wife and
family. He recently completed
basic infantry training at Camp
Roberts.

Store Robbed A report made
to local police yesterday stated
Kee's second hand store on
North Riverside was broken Into
sometime Saturday night and a
80-30 rifle and other articles
were stolen. No suspects were
held tn the case, police said. The
burglar apparently entered the
establishment through the back
door, police report.
Assigned Pvt. David S.
Bromley has been assigned to
the AAF training command
radio school' at the Sioux Falls
army air field, South Dakota,
according to a news release from
the field. Upon completion of a
26-week course he will be as
signed to bomber crew, the re
lease states. Pvt. Bromley, who
graduated from Medford senior
high school with the class of
1944, Is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Harold H. Brown,' 995 South
Oakdale avenue. He previously
was stationed at Ft. Lewis,
Wash., and Keesler Field, Miss..

Pedestrian Hit Mrs. Ruby G.
Stout, 80, of 28 Quince street,
was slightly Injured yesterday
morning when an automobile
driven by Edith L. Cummings
of Gold Hill struck her at a
driveway on East 6th street, ac
cording to a report filed by the
operator of the vehicle. The acci
dent occurred about 100 feet
east of Fir street when the
driver entering a driveway,
failed to see Mrs. Stout due to
another car parked nearby, the
report stated. Relatives of Mrs.
Stout said today she was bruised
about her face but that fortun
ately no bones were broken in
the mishap.
