Mrs. .Ernest Reed Cox and
small child will leave this eve
ning after spending the past
week here with Pvt. Cox' par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Cox,
336 Mae street. Pvt. Cox, who
recently completed army para
troops training at Ft. Benning
Ga., will return to the fort for
advanced training and Mrs. Cox
will go to Hagerman, Ida., to be
with her parents.
Sons Meet In a letter to his
mother, Mrs. E. H. Oliver of
Trail, Orval Oliver, Sic in the
navy, wrote that he met his old
est brother, Herman P. Oliver,
TMElc, by accident. The broth
ers had not seen one another in
four years. Young Oliver wrote
that he was standing in front of
a theater near the overseas base
where he is stationed and look
ed up to see brother walking
along the street. Mr. and Mrs,
Oliver have four sons all in the
service.
Arrest Two John D. Judd
and Albert Wesley Calhoun
were booked by city police yes
terday on a charge of drunk-
eness. Judd forfeited $10 bail
in police court this morning and

Dimes Stolen A can contain

National Infantile Paralysis
Foundation was stolen from the
Owl club, police report filed
yesterday states. The can con

Visits Here Cpl. Lowell Iver-
son, formerly employed by the
Medford Groceterias, Is spend
ing a furlough here at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Rose, 429
South Front. Cpl. Iverson has

day. He left Medford early In
the war and has besn with the
41st division in New Guinea and
Australia.
On Honor Roll June Jar-
mln, sophomore in science at
Oregon State college, earned a
place on the honor roll for last
quarter with a grade point aver
age of 3.50 or above according
to a news release from the
school. A 3.90 average is half
way between A and B, the re
lease states. Miss Jarmln is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle
Jarmin, 823 Sherman avenue.
Investigate Accident A sedan
driven by Mrs. Ruth Blackburn
and a truck of the Trumix Con
crete company driven by Frank
Gidney were involved in an ac
cident yesterday afternoon at
the corner of Jackson boulevard
and Central avenue according
to a report on file at the police
department. The report stated
that Mrs. Blackburn's sedan was
sideswiped by the truck when
the driver made too wide a turn
at the intersection.
Judge Hanna Visits Circuit
Judge Herbert K. Hanna called
at his chambers in the court
house yesterday for the first
time since his recent illness, and
visited a few county offices be
fore returning to his home in
Jacksonville where he is con
valescing rapidly. He also met
Judge Crawford of Portland,
who has been occupying the lo
cal bench. Judge Crawford left
for Portland last night, and will
return next week. A number of
criminal cases and minor mat
ters in the probate court are
pending.

RED CROSS GIFTS
RECEIVED AT SEA
Telling of the distribution of
Red Cross packages on his snip
on Christmas Day, Mrs. C. L.
Conaway has received a. letter
from her husband. Master Sgt,
Conaway, Who was on the high
seas on Christmas Day.
Sgt. Conaway wrote that he
had enjoyed a fine day and that
distribution of the packages had
been one of the highlights of
the holiday on the ship. There
were enough packages to pro
vide one for every man and the
few left over were opened and
the contents used for prizes for
games, the sergeant wrote. Mail
delivery added to the fun, Sgt.
Conaway said, and added that
he received 20 letters from Mrs.
Conaway in the one delivery.
Sgt. Conaway has been in the
army 12 years and is In the air
corps. Mrs. Conaway makes her
home at 129 Kenwood avenue,

ticularly interested In her hus
band s description of the pack,
age distribution since she had
contributed to the local project
carried on Just before the holl'
days by the Camp and Hospital
committee of the county Red
Cross chapter. Hundreds of
small gifts, contributed from all
parts of the eounty, were) re
ceived at the courthouse and
packaged in holiday wrappings.
VILLE LANDMARK IS
DAMAGED BY FLAMES
Jacksonville, Jan. 28. The
old Dr. J. W. Robinson home on
the Old Stage road near here
suffered heavy fire damage Wed
nesday when flames started
around a -defective flue and
burned the upper story. The
place has been occupied by Mr.
and Mrs. Ryder for the past two
months. -
