in demand for railroad stocks as

selling in that group may have

had been such that any concen
trated buying in any group of
leaders would have provided the

since Pearl Harbor still are run
ning more than two to one over
deaths to American fighting
men on all battlefronts, an
nounced Ned H. Dearborn, pres
ident ot the National Safety
Council.
The death totals on Nov. 1
were 280,000 for accidents and
108,897 for war, Dearborn said.
"No one means to lniply, of
course, that life on me home
front is as dangerous as on the
battlefront." he said. "But as
long as accidents are making a
second-place killer out of war,
they are ai challenge no serious-
minded person can Ignore"

handed teachers in New Jer
sey, at least are not particular
ly handicapped in their chosen
profession, a survey by Christie
Jeffries, assistant prolessor of
English at the State Teachers
college, Paterson, reports in the
New Jersey Educational Re
view. Curious about the subiect of
left-handed teachers, she sent a
questionnaire to Jersey princi
pals and learned that 81 princi
pals had no objection to a
"southpaw" teacher, 22 were
doubtful because ol lack of ex
perience with left-handed teach
ers, and 24 said they regarded
left-handedness .as a teacher
handicap because of the tend
ency of pupils to emulate the
teacher's writing habits.
Left-handednpss has increased
from four to 13 per cent in the
past two decades, she found, but
only 1 6 per cent of the princi
pals who answered her question-
aire were southpaws.
