Judge Surprised By
Truth, Fine Passed
Evansville, Ind. (U.R) John
Wallace is a firm believer in
honesty. When he was ar
raigned on a charge of drunken
ness he told judge James Cren
shaw, "I just had one or two
beers too much."
The judge was taken by sur
prise and answered, "You're the
only man I've ever had in my
court to tell the plain truth.
You are a good citizen and
know that truth is more import
ant than a little off-color diffi
culties that one may get himself
into." He suspended the fine.
Americal Said Only
Division With Name
Boston (U.R) The Americal
Division, which boasts a large
percentage of New Englanders,
is the only combat division
overseas to be designated by
name rather than number.
The Americal Division, now
somewhere in the Southwest
Pacific, was the first American
army unit to engage the Japa
nese in offensive operations. It
has served in Australia, New
Caledonia, Guadalcanal, the Fiji
Islands and Bougainville.
