when Pete Belcastro, exponent
of rule violations, meets smooth
wrestling Jack Kiser, coast light
heavy king, In the top main
event. They will clash for one
hour straight time or two out of
three falls.
Belcastro usually relies on
nunches to the head and other
uncouth infractions to beat his
foe Into submission for applica
tion of his deadly surfboard bold
while Klser's specialty Is to
apply his alligator clutch while
his adversary is administering
the beating.
Terrible Tony Ross, who Is no
slouch at handing out beatings,
will clash with Gust Johnson,

Medford high school basketeers
are set for week end of games
on the local maple boards, be
ginning with Ashland Friday
night in a southern Oregon con
ference game and winding up
against Eureka in an Intersec
tions! clash Saturday night. .
Eureka uses an exponent plan
in making up their varsity
basketball teams, players being
divided accordnig to their weight
and height which often results
in a second team being as good
as a first team, except smaller.
Eureka will bring IS players to
Medford, seven for the varsity
and eight for the preliminary
game with Ed Kirtley's reserves.
The varsity will be sparked by
Andy Knudsen, Bob Barnum,
'Red" Hunt and Carlo Simoni,
all football players who opposed
Medford last season.
Friday night's game will be
preceded by a preliminary be
tween the B teams of the two
schools.
Other games this week end
will pit Roseburg at Grants Pass
and Klamath Falls at Bend.

President Branch Rickey of the
Brooklyn Dodgers brought his
post war professional football
plans more or less out into the
open today and with a minimum
of his usual verbal fencing indi
cated that he would have a team
ready for one of the new leagues
by 1046.
The boss of the Dodgers thus
became the first baseball execu
tive to indicate definitely that he
would resolve the "feud" with
pro football magnates with a
counter-measure by starting a
team himself.
Rickey said that he would pro
vide Capt. Dan Topping, owner
of the Brooklyn Tigers of the Na
tional Professional leaeue. with a
one-year contract to operate at
fcDDets field through next season,
but emphasized that he would
"not commit the use of the field
beyond that."

Troop 2. It was a clean and hard
fought game with both teams
missing several free throws.
It was the first game of the
Boy Scout basketball league.

ON FUEL OIL SHORTAGE
Washington, Jan. 4 (U.FD - -Fuel
oil and soft coal users were
warned to take it easy if they
don't want to run short before
the winter is over.
The office of price administra
tion, stating that fuel oil is now
as scarce as during the first
shortage period in 1942-43, said
many householders were "dip
ping too neavily" into their ra
tions and might have to suffer
in cold homes hater.

him to confess the slaying, will
