STONE BABY OF

A itone baby, delivered In June,
1940, to a negro woman who has
' tinea died, wai disclosed today
, to be the property of Its live-year-old
sister, Velma Lubln,
considered by some doctors to be
its twin.
Velma came Into possession of
the freak, known as a llthope-
: dlon, following four years of liti
gation. Originally when the cal
cified embryo, almost life-size,
was discovered in Mrs. Claudia
" Lubln's womb along with a normally-dead
five months old em
bryo, Mrs. Lublin signed a re
lease allowing Sydenham hospi
tal authorities to take possession
of both bodies.
She discovered later, however,
her attorney, Jacob Fishback,
said today, that the child was
stone, and had been placed in
formaldehyde as an exhibit. She
: then started litigation for $100,
. 000 damages for mental anguish
and the right to bury the child.
Mrs. Lubin died In October,
1941, of stomach disorder while
the case was still pending, and
her entire . estate, including the
, calcified body and any damages,

CALLED BY DEATH
Owen Francis Reddy. a res!
dent of Medford and Jackson
county for the last 30 years,
passed away Wednesday morn
ing following a lengthy illness
Mr. Reddy was born at Cleve
land, O., May 2, 1880. On May
8, 1927, he was married to Miss
Lulu Slagle at Eugene, Ore, He
leaves to mourn his passing, his
wife and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held
at the Sacred Heart church
Tuesday at 9 a. m., the Rev.
Father Henry Orth will officiate.
Recitation of the rosary will be
held at the Perl funeral home
Monday at 8 p. m. Interment
will follow the funeral service
in' Jacksonville cemetery.

ford high school student, has Just
completed one year of duty
overseas. Inducted into the army
in March, 1942, Cpl. Latimer,
32, received his training at Camp
Roberts, Cel., and holds the good
conduct medal.
The artilleryman la a veteran
of the Hollandia operation which
cut off the entire Japanese 18th
army and advanced Gen. Doug
las MacArthur's forces several
hundred miles nearer Tokyo.
