motion picture exhibitors will
have an "Important bearing" in
comparable suits against other
members of the industry, Justice
department officials said today,

Wendell Berge. in charge of the
anti-trust division, said "The
government believes that the
principles announced by the su
preme court in the Crescent
Southern) case have an Import
ant bearing on three pending
cases."
TMese are the Schlne case at
Buffalo, N. Y., In which evi
dence has been presented; the
Griffiths case in Oklahoma
which is set for trial next March
and the Paramount case pending

Like a lot of other American
homes, the White House is get
ting a thorough oleaning this
week preparatory to Installation
of the Christmas tree.
, The tree will go up early next
week In the glittering cast room
Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt told
a group ot newspaper women
whom she led on a tour of the
executive mansion.
Step-ladders and cleaners
were very much in evidence in
the beautiful east room where
cleaning is perhaps more compli
cated than anywhere else In the
White House. The Job of clean
ing the two gigantic crystal
chandeliers alone require the at
tention of six men for at least
day and a half. The chandallers
contain 22,000 prisms, each of
which require an individual go
ing over, Mrs. Roosevelt said.
Except for the freshening up
and the hanging of the greens,
the While House is now ready
for Christmas.
The first lady did her Christ
mas shopping very early and her
"Christmas closet" is filled with
presents for the family and
White House staff.
Even the plum puddings are
ready, according to Mrs. Henri
etta Nesbitt, the official house
keeper. The White House won't
have any fruit cakes this year
because. Mrs. Nesbitt said, the
ingredients were too hard to get.
Mrs. Roosevelt gave the worn
en Journalists a running com
mentary on interesting sidelights
on the White House. And she
added lone more story to the
legends of the White House
"ghost," which Is supposed to
hover around the seven foot bed
where President Lincoln slept.
One night, when there were
no occupants of the upper floor,
Mrs. Roosevelt said, a White
House secretary went up on an
errand, and suddenly dashed
downstairs in terror, swearing

brilliant object which adds
splendor to the southwestern sky
while twilight is still bright.
This la Venus, aften called the
earth's twin sister because of
similarity In size. Venus will
reach its greatest luminosity
next March 10, and will remain
In the western evening sky until
April. Look early in the evening
for this gorgeous planet, for It
sets only three hours after the
sun. By all means learn Venus
by sight and by name.
For the bright stars listed be
low, let us observe around 7:30
p. m. Fomalhaut Is twinkling
low in the south Turning toward
the west, we find Vega very
high in the sky somewhat north
of due west. A little south of
west and lower, Altalr stands,
but not so bright as Altalr.
Down In the north the Big
Dipper, right side up, is im
perceptibly creeping eastward.
Observe it again an hour or two
later. The result of the earth's
rotation will be clearly evident.
Facing due east we find about
halt way up the sky the compact
tiny dipper of six little stars, the
Pleiades. On the same level with
these; but somewhat farther
north, shines yellow Capella.
the brightest star In the eastern
sky. Directly under the Pleiades,
orange Aldebaran twinkles mer
rily. Aldebaran is the only bright
star In the small V-shaped fig
ure, the Hyades, which lies on
Its side with the point toward
the south
Near the horizon, and almost
that she saw President Lincoln
sitting on the side of his bed
pulling on his boots.
"It is an eerie place when no
one is around," Mra. Roosevelt
admitted.
The first lady declared she
hopes some day to burn the 15-
year old pastel portrait of her
self that hangs above the mantel
of the president's private study,
"It s too pretty," she declared.

look quite like other stars for it
does not twinkle, but glows with
the steady light characteristic of
