Short but steep, compared to
San Francisco's Harding park
layout, the par-70 Sequoyah
course here nevertheless fits the
driving ability of such long ball
hitters as Nelson; Slammin'
Sammy Snead, victor in the
Portland open; Sgt. Jim Ferrler,
former Australian champ and
runner-up In San Francisco, and
Sammy Byrd, Detroit, former
outfielder for the New 'York

The Sequoyah fairway are
narrow, however, and require
accuracy. If present good weath
er continues through the end of
the tournament Sunday, the
winning 72-hole score of 281 in
San Francisco should be low
ered.
In final practice sessions yes

score equaled earlier by Claude
Harmon, Grosse Polnte Woods,
Mich., and Ferrler.
Nelson, who suffered an at
tack of Indigestion, took 39
strokes 'out but recovered with
an incoming 34 for a 73.
