caution she might take to avoid

child born of a tuberculous par
ent may be as healthy as any
child but unfortunately such
an infant is almost certain to
catch tuberculosis if the mother
has the disease in active stage
and for this reason it is absolute
ly imperative that a baby born
to a tuberculous mother be
taken away from the mother and
kept away from her, for the
baby's sake, there is no excep
tion to this, I believe.
When this couple ask whether
their baby would be "weak and
sickly" I suppose they mean
with poor or low "resistance"
but I don't know what that
means, so let's compromise on
immunity, for immunity is some
thing doctors do know some
thing about. Candidly I have no
idea whether a child born to
such parents would have too lit
tle, a fair degree, or no immun
ity against tuberculosis. It could
be easily determined, however,
by applying to the newborn
baby a tuberculin test.
