ly the Christ of the "Christian"
and I respectfully commend Him
to you. (Signed . . . )
I didn't say the half of it. I'd
rather say it now, with unmis
takable clarity, only I know it
wouldn't be printed.
What I meant was, of course,
God bless .all good mothers
whether they profess to be Chris
tians or not. And that's all I
meant. What that patronizing
correspondent thought about the
nurse I can't imagine. No mat
ter. I still say God bless the
mothers who ask their children
to give a pledge against using
alcohol or tobacco before they
come of age, and to renew that
pledge on some solemn occasion
every year. I tell you that Is a
great boon for any kid, whether
his or her mother is a Christian
or not.
