Temporary Promotion A Unit

Medford, has been given a tem
porary promotion from first
lieutenant to captain. His local
connections could not be imme

Overseas Mr. and Mrs,
Claude Payton, Route 3, Morrow
Road, have received word that
their son, Pfc. Donald L. Edler,
Is now somewhere in France. He
Is a graduate of Prospect high
school and was employed at Sni
der Dairy and Produce company
before entering the service.
Returns Home Mrs. Walter
Inch, her daughter, Mrs. Thomas
Emmens, and the Emmens' chil
dren, Robert and James, arrived
in Medford Sunday after a three
week visit with Mrs. Inch's
daughter and son-in-law Mr. and
Mrs. William Roberts of North
Hollywood. Captain Thomas
Emmens is stationed in Italy
with the medical corps.
' Two' Enlist Two additional
Medford youths , have enlisted
in the United States naval re
serve according to Herb Crain,
recruiting officer in charge of
the Medford navy recruiting
station, They are John William
Clark, Jr., Route 2, Box 418,
and a son of Mr. and Mrs. John
W. Clark, Sr., and Bobby Alfred
Schroeder, Route 4, Box 19S,
son of Mr, and Mrs. Alfred W.
Schroeder. Both are 17 years
old. Clark and Schroeder are
home on inactive duty awaiting
their call to a training station.

Doa Problem Several chil
dren have been bitten by stray
dogs roaming around ele
mentary schools of late, and the
problem of stray dogs, has be
come so acute that school prin
cipals will be forced to call city
officials to care for the animals
ir. the future, according to E. H.
Hedrlck, local school superin
tendent. Children have been re
quested to keep their pets at
home, but there are still dogs
that roam the school grounds
whose owners are unknown, the
superintendent said. '

Special Meeting To
Welcome Deaconess
At Lutheran Church
Three special meetings have
been announced for Wednesday
at Zion Lutheran Church as the
congregation welcomes Sister
Mildred Winter, the first Lu
theran deaconess to visit the
church. Ladies of the church
will meet with her for a waffle
luncheon at noon, girls of the
congregation will gather at 5:30
p. m. for a pot-luck supper to
hear Sister Mildred explain her
work, and at 8 o'clock the Wo
men's Missionary society will
sponsor a special Thank-offering
service at which Sister Mildred
will deliver the address. The
latter service is open to the gen
eral public.
Sister Mildred Is the newly
chosen field secretary of the
Board of Deaconesses work of
the church and is being sent out
to the various congregations in
order that -the deaconess cause
may be better known and that
young women may get first
hand information of this type of
work. She has served for 13
years as parish deaconess in St.
Mark's Lutheran Church. Wll-

SAID MISSING
Leola Faye Pool, 15, has been
missing from her home. Route
3, Box 439, since last night, ac
cording to a report on file at
state police headquarters. She
made her home with her mother,
Mrs, Dale Friend, the report
said.
She is said to be five feet, four
inches tall, weighing 190 pounds,
with brown hair and brown
eyes. She is thought to have
gone to California.
The girl was reported missing
to the police by her brother.
