Letters Are Read
'At Last Meeting
D.A.R. Chapter
Letters from men who are
members of tha crew of the
V.S.S. I. C, I. boat 609 were
read by members of Crater Lake
Chapter, Daughters of the Amer
ican Revolution, during a meet
ing held October 28 at the home
of Mrs. Thomas Young in the
Griffin Creek district.
Tha chapter has been asked
to sponsor the boat which means
that names of the crew of 29
were listed and each member
chose a name, writing letters to
the serviceman, sending gifts
and taking care of requests, Mrs.
H, E. Green read an article from
the National Geographic mag
azine describing the L, C. I.
boats and members then read
the letters which they have re
ceived from ti e sponsored crew.
Mrs, L, C, Nichols sang two
solos.
The meeting followed lunch
eon, hostesses assisting' Mrs.
Young being Mrs. O. H. Bren-
neman and Mrs. H. E. Marsh.
Gay autumn flowers decorated
the rooms of the Young home
and the luncheon tables.
A business meeting was pre
sided over by Mrs, Brenneman,
regent.

Departments Hold
Hallowe'en Party
Three Hallowe'en parties
were an event of October 28
when the Junior, beginners' and
nursery department oi the First
Christian church met for an aft
ernoon of fun end frolic. Ice
cream, cookies and popcorn
were served to 31 Juniors, 25
beginners and 14 members of
the nursery department and to
seven mothers who were guests
of the children.
Teachers present were Mrs,
Vera Bailey, junior superintend
ent, and Mrs. A. H, Gregory and
Mrs. Claude Miles; Mrs, G. C.
Corum, beginners' superintend
ent, and Mrs, Earl McQuigg;
Mrs. Craig, nursery superin
tendent, Mrs, Carlson and Mrs.
Hunter.

By Mothers Club
Navy Mothers club No, 46 of
Medford will meet Monday,
Nov. 6, at the Girls Commun
ity club and members are ask
ed to note the change in date
from Tuesday. Mothers and
wives of navy, marine corps and
coast guard personnel are invit
ed to attend the club meetings.
The club has as its special
task the making of layettes for
the families ot men in the navy,
marine corps and coast guard
units and is in need of additional
workers. Women attending are
asked to come prepared to sew.
Officers state that the need is
urgent and that any aid will be
gratefully received.

Cross memorial project were
made. Mrs. Alfred S, V, Car
penter spoke on the approach
ing meeting of volunteer service
corps heads in Forttand, Mrs,
Don Newbury told of a Portland
conference for nurses aide chair
men which she planned to at
tend and Mrs. A, Orin Schenck
spoke on a trip to the area office
to San Francisco where she
gained information on produc
tion, for which she Is chairman
here. Increased production quo
tas have been given the local
cht iter, it was said.

Legion Auxiliary
To Give Luncheon
On Armistice Day
Plans have been completed for
the annual Armistie day gather
ing of the auxiliary to Medford
post of the American Legion
The affair this year will be a
luncheon at the Holland hotel
at 12:15 p. m,, following the
annual patriotic parade in which
the members will participate.
Members are asked to bring a
box of candy and a package of
ciragettes to the luncheon and
these will be sent to the vet
erans' hospital at Boseburg, The
general public is invited to add
to the gifts Bnd may leave their
contributions with Mrs, Ruth
Freed at the West Side Shopping
center, corner of Main and
Grape streets, or with Mrs.
Grace Holmes at the Holmes
ageneyin the Medford Center
building.
It is announced that there
will be no regular meeting of
the auxiliary on November 8
due to the plans for November

Entertained For
Hallowe'en Party
Members of the Doorkeepers
class of the Foursquare Gopel
Sunday school were entertained
at a Hallowe'en party Monday
evening at the home of their
teacher. Miss Wanda Faye Cass
man at her home, 016 North
Central avenue. Mr, and Mrs.
Hubert Parks assisted Miss Cass
man with the party.
Guests played the traditional
Hallowe'en games. Including
ducking for apples, a marshmal
low eating contest and an apple
biting contest. In the midst of
the games a ghost appeared and
entertained the children with
stories.
Prizes were won by Eleanor
Patterson, Anita Garman and
Lloyd Dyerr. Guests were

In Recital Today
Compositions by Crieg and
Bach which have proven pop
ular with audiences will be fea
tured on the organ recital which
Mrs, Margarita Conrad will give
this evening at St. Mark's Epis
copal church at 4:30 o'clock.
This is the first of a series of re
citals which Mrs, Conrad plans
to give during the winter.
Among the numbers which
will be on the program are
"Morning" and "Berceuse" by
