Visits France
After ten days in England,
, the party was invited by Gen.
Eisenhower to visit the beaches
and operations of the American
forces in France. The scenes at
the "Omaha" and "Utah"

trip. He told of seeing the cliff
where the Rangers climbed to

ments. From one cliff still
dangled a rope ladder, shot there

Ellsworth told of the pride
shown- by both army and navy
commanders in the men of the
two services who are working I
together as one service.
From Cherbourg, where the
Germans made every effort to
destroy the port, more supplies
were brought in than anyone
thought possible. Congressman
Ellsworth told of the Bed Ball
supply highway which can carry
supplies from the port to the
front In two and half days.
Lauds Elienhower
He described Gen. Eisenhower
as "one of the world's greatest
men."
In Paris the congressmen
were taken Into the war room,
the walls of which were com
pletely lined with charts and
maps of the battlefronts. Sur
geon General Haley told them
that 00 per cent of the wounded
men who get medical attention
fully recover.
Outcome of War
In answer to the often-asked
question about the end of the
war, Ellsworth said that he has
reached two conclusions: There
Is no doubt as to the outcome
of the war for the Germans
cannot muster enough strength
to withstand the force of the
Allied thrust. The congressman
said that he saw no possibility
of the end of the war before the
first of the year, although the
precision bombing of the pres
ent weeks may have hit a vital
life-line that could stop the war
much sooner.

GRAND JURY REPORT
EXPECTED TOMORROW
The grand Jury, E. C. Faber,
Central Point, foreman, is ex
pected to make a report tomor
row, District Attorney George
W. Neilson said today. The body
has Investigated more than a
dozen criminal matters, since
their sessions opened last Mon
day. A number of criminal mat
ters pending for two or three
months have been probed. Some
of these will be deferred, the
district attorney said, until new
evidence can be received.
ANGLER FINED $25 ON
PERMIT FALSIFICATION
John A. Eberhardt, charged
with falsification of angler's li
cense, was fined $25 and costs
In Justice court. He paid part of
his fine and costs and promised
to pay the remainder Saturday.
Eberhardt, it developed from
the state police report, has been
working here for six months,
but has no auto registration
card or driver's license.

closed land was also filed in Jus
tice court yesterday.
KEPT ON GOINO

Michael O'Connor, 43, was In
such a rush to get to bed after
a night shift in a shipyard that
he dashed over a freshly waxed
floor to the window, Jerked it
up and kept on going. A clothes
line six floors below broke his
fall and limited his injuries to
a broken leg. ,

EXPLOSION OF MOTOR
Morris Imhausen, Old Pacific
highway, was the victim of
freak accident last night when
a small electric motor be was
repairing exploded and cut
severe gnshes In his head. Mr.
Imhausen was found uncon
scious on the kitchen floor by
his wife, who was unable to ex
plain Just what occurred. Mr.
Imhausen was taken to the
Sacred Heart hospital by am
bulance where he was still un
conscious this morning.

NO ONI NEEDS a redpe to enjoy a good eatfnf
apple, whether the occasion be Hallowe'en or
Juitt any day at all. But for apples that are bettef
when cooked, here are appetizing suggestions.
GLAZED BAKED APPLES
(Them are the kind you get in fine restaurant
but there's nothing complicated about preparing
them): Wash 6 large baking apples, remove blos
som ends, and core about 2 inches deep. Fill each
cavity with 1 or 2 thsps. sugar, dnsh of cinnamon
and nutmeg. Place in baking dish, with small
amount of. water. Bake in moderate oven
(375 F.) about 45 minutes. Make syrup of 1 cup
sugar and I cup water; boil 5 minutes. Remove
cover for last 15 minutes of baking, end basta
frequently with syrup. Serve warm or cold, with
cream or chilled custard sauce.
CATSUP APPLES v
Core, but in not peel cooking apples. Cut In half
crosswise, and place in baking dish, cut side up.
Top each half with Yi tbsp. catsup and H tbsp.
butter or margarine. Add enough writer to cover
the bottom of the dish. Bake in moderate oven
(.150 F.) for about 30 minutes. Just before sero
Lng, turn tha cut sides of the apples down, to
absorb the juice.
