How can I crash the delivery
room in the Hospital? On
Feb. 4, 1942, I spent 12 hours
in the mens
labor room at
Hospital,
and then was
info rmed by
an office girl
that my son
had been de
livered. Then
after another
hour I was al
lowed to go
up to the ma
ternity ward
Dr Brady t0 see my wife
and baby. Our doctor was Dr.
I know from your newspaper
column that you understand my
gripe, and hope that you can
inform me what to do when
our next baby is born, which
we expect will be about the end
of next Jnnuary. We were
greatly disappointed when
was excluded my wife wanted
mo to remain with her, to share
the birth as well as the bill.

In a hospital that purports to
serve the public the order or
wish of the attending physician
should supersede any "rule" or
quaint custom the hospital may
have sought to establish, exclud
ing the father from the delivery
room, if he is man enough to
remain with his wife during the
delivery.
Probably a good many hospi
tals or the politicians who con
trol them will try to Justify this
trick by saying the purpose of
excluding the expectant father
Is asepsis the desire to main
tain in the delivery room an en
vironment as nearly germ-free
as possible. But I tell you that's
a lot of hooey it is Ironical
when we consider what goes on
In most hospital delivery rooms.
The place for a real man is
with his wife when she Is bear
ing his child.
A doctor who acquiesces In
the trick of excluding the hus
band from the delivery room is
Maybe you've alwaj-s had a
full pocket book. H so, a few
years back when traveling was
done by train, you walked Into
the diner at meal time and or
dered a good square. And if I
were on that train I envied you
for I stayed In my scat and ate
my lunch out of a shoe box.
The contents of that box ran
largely to fried chicken. Mother
was I great believer in the ef
fiency of fried chicken, both as
nourishment and as a means of
developing fellowship with the
oilier pauengors. She'd get out

There is one way to break up
this practice. At the time you
engage the doctor's services, if
your home is not a suitable
place for the baby to be born,
have a distinct understanding
that the expectant father is to
remain with his wife from be
ginning to end, and then, if the
expectant father is not just a
stooge, as the comic papers and
the second rate hospitals would
have him, he will carry on with
dignity and decency.

The sailor and 1 had done our
best but there was still a lot

The office of price administra
tion today authorized increases
of from 25 to 35 cents a barrel
in the ceiling price of five varie
ties of rough rice at the producer
level. The increase will apply to
producers in all states except
California, OPA said, with types
of rice affected including Rex
oro, Texas Patna, Nira, Fortuna,
and Edith.
