given a routine medical exami
nation by the Red Cross. The
Red Cross shepherded him on his
plane trip from England.
The identity of the tot for
whom President Roosevelt cut
red tape so he could come to
America aboard an army trans
port plane was to have been
kept secret, but his grandmother
inadvertantly let the secret out
in her home town.
She didn't mean to, she said,
but her son had died in February,
and his wife's parents cared for
the baby until they were killed
by a bomb, "and it was too won
derful having the baby to keep
quiet."
