terian Theatre's 20th Anniver
sary Week, Eino Hemmila, gen
eral manager of the Geo. A.
. Hunt Theatres, is also celebrat
ing his 20th year in show busi
ness, having started in 1924 at

Among those who have watch
ed the growth of entertainment
in Medford with more than pass
ing interest is R. J. Antle, prom
inent Medford business man, for I
alr.-Antle was at one time asso
ciated with George Hunt in the
operation of the old Paige and
Rialto theatres, which they pur
chased from Moran and Percy.
It was on September 1, 1918,
that Hunt and Antle first Joined
forces and the partners were in
business together until 1924,
when Mr. Antle sold hii inter
ests to the late Julius Wolf. Since
that time he has watched the
fortunes of the local theatres ebb
and flow through good times and
bad with much interest and can
always be counted upon to recall
some amusing anecdotes of the
problems he and Mr. Hunt faced
in the years they were business
associates.

den presidential election of 1876
remained in doubt for four
months.

In 1926. Hemmila went to
San Franciscn and herarrte an
usher at the California Theatre
there, transferrin!? "in 1927 to
the Granada Theatre, ri o w
known as the Paramount, as
chief usher. The- following
year, he became treasurer and :
assistant manager of the Broad
way Theatre, Portland, and in
1931 assistant manager of the
Portland Paramount Theatre. In
the fall of the same. year,. he re
turned to San Francisco as as
sistant manager of the California
Theatre and ' in-July of 1932
came to Medford as manager of
the Rialto Theatre for Fox.
In May of 1933, George Hunt
resumed-operation- of the Cra
terian and Rialto Theatres and
Hemmila resigned . from Fox
Theatres and became Mr. Hunt's
assistant and advertising man-
ager. Last year, he was named
general manager of the local
theatres, as well as the Grants
Pass and Roseburg theatres. In
April of this year, Hemmila,
with Donn Radabaugh of Rose
burg and A. Orin Schenck, well
known Medford accountant,
purchased the Roseburg theatres
from the Hunt estate and the
partners are now readying a
' third theatre which- will soon be
opened there. ' -
Methodist Women
To Observe Week
In Two Services
Womans Society of Christian
Service of the Methodist Church
will observe the annual Week
of Prayer and Self Denial with
two services, October 24 and 25.
The Quiet Day service will be
held in the church parlors on
f Tuesday, beginning at 11:00.
There will be intermission for
lunch from 12 to 1:00 and the
service will continue in the aft
ernoon. The usual monthly
business meeting will follow.
Wednesday 7:30 p. m. the
Woman's Society of Christian
Service and the Wcsleyan Serv-

partment for use on overseas;
mail. The general sale by the
Jackson County Public Health
association, will not open until
November 27. More than 400
seals were purchased for the
overseas packages, Miss Koppes
stated.

Visited By Thieves
Miss Elizabeth McGalliard,
county nurse, reported to city
police that her tan, reversible
raincoat, size 16, was stolen out
of her car Thursday night. The
car was parked in front of her
house at '31 West Jackson
street. Miss McGalliard's ration
book was taken at the same time.
Miss Mary Ellen Bell, another
nurse, had some nursing records
and her ration book stolen from
her car on the same night. The
car was parked In front of the
same residence.
