Volunteers Asked, For Resi
dential Area Canvas This
Week
With downtown solicitation
swinging Into the last lap. Com
munity Chest campaign volun
teer leaders are now directing
attention to organization of the
necessary house-to-house can
vass of residential neighbor
hoods. Object of the campaign
Is to see that every adult resi
dent of the city and adjacent
areas is given an opportunity to
contribute by "face-to-face" con
tact. Officials state that they be
lieve about three-fourths of the
city's potential contributors are
reached at places of employment,
but experience has shown that
many generous chest members
are not so located and await calls
at their homes.
While some duplication as be
tween places of business and
residences will occur, contribu
tors are reminded that the famil
iar "We Shared" sticker In the
window will be evidence of a
prior solicitation, and will save
a volunteer worker another call.
"Residential solicitation tradl-
tionally is a Job for women vol
unteer solicitors and an estimat
ed 40 to 50 will be needed to
handle Mcdford neighborhoods
this year." A. M. Cannon, Com
munity Chest president, states.
"The response to our first calls
for help has been most gratify
ing. We expect to keep asking
people for help until we have
responsibility assigned to some
one for every street and block In
town," Cannon said. Those will
ing to take part In this work dur
ing the coming week are asked
to phone Mr. Cannon at 2241
or call at the chest office, 123
West Main street, phone 5588.
Volunteers already secured In
cluded Mrs. Ernest Scott, Mrs.
Mark Goldy, Mrs. Gertrude
Moffet, Mrs. O. H. Bengtson,
Mrs. Darrcll Huson, Mrs. Harry
Holmes, Mrs. Ray Harrison, Mrs.
Moore Hamilton, Mrs. Ruth Par
ker and Mrs. Bcrnice Alford.
