Completes Training Arthur
D. Olson, aviation ordnanceman
of Rogue River, was presented
the insignia of a naval aircrew
man recently when he complet
ed the final phase of training at
the naval air operational train
ing command headquarters at
Jacksonville, Fla., a dispatch
from the school states. Olson
enlisted in the navy in Novem
ber of 1943 and completed
"boot" training at the naval
training station at Farragut,
Ida. He was selected to attend
the ordnance school at Norman,
Okla., as a result of aptitude
tests, and graduated in the top
10 per cent of hts class, accord
ing to the release. From Nor
man, Ordnanceman Olson then
went to aerial gunners school at
Purcell, Okla., where he com
pleted training in July of this
year.

Valzah of 325 Crater Lake ave

receipt of word that his mother,
Mrs. A. B. Van Valzah of Spring
field, had passed away last night.
Mrs. Van Valzah and their three
children accompanied him and it

be away the remainder of the
week. The. Misses Anne and
Marjorie Van Valzah, daughters
of Mrs. R. C. Van Valzah of 19
Elm street, are granddaughters
of the Springf'.eld woman and
Miss Anne, student at the Uni
versity of Oregon, was with her
grandmother at the time of her
death.
Mrs. Walsh Home
From Last Rites
For Clair Walsh
Mrs. Vergia Walsh returned
to Medford yesterday from Wat
ertown, S. D., where she went
last month to arrange funeral
services for her husband, Clair
L. Walsh, Medford contractor,
who died Sept. 12 in the Rose
burg Veterans' hospital. Mr.
Walsh, who had lived in Med
ford for 20 years, was a patient
In the hospital for three months
before his death.
The deceased was a native of
Watertown, having been born
there June 4, 1892. He was edu
cated in the Watertown schools
and served during World War I
with the 20th Engineers' unit.
Survivors, In addition to the
wife, are two children, Alcene
and Richard, both of Medford;
two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Daley
of Watertown and Mrs. L. D.
Blaln of Seattle, and a brother,
Roy, also of Seattle.
Mrs. Walsh; with her son and
daughter, will continue to make
their home here" at 846 Pearl
street.

PLANS COMPLETE
The military affairs committee
of Crater Lake Post, Veterans of
Foreign Wars, completed plans
Sunday for the post's participa
tion in local Armistice Day ac
tivities. At the committee meet
ing, held in the Riverside USO,
M. A. Beneke was named finance
officer; W. J. Cooney, civilian
contact officer; E. D. Lyman,
naval contact and Post Adjutant
H. B. Wales was made committee
chairman.
Lyman left Monday for Klam
ath Falls to complete necessary
arrangements for bringing to
Medford the South Pacific vet
eran marines and sailors sched
uled to be post guests for the
dav and parade with the local
VFW'5.
Wales stated he wished to
make it plain that while the
committee is coordinating work
within the Veterans of Foreign
Wars, It will gladly cooperate
with other veteran groups in all
matters within its jurisdiction.
