IN CITY REPORT
Ashland, Oct. 9 (U.R) At a
meeting of the city council this
week report was made by the
board of health concerning the
premises and activities of Alice
Stewart, at 1257 Siskiyou Boule
vard.
Mrs. Stewart has been operat
ive ttm m "tinnlnr " .l.lmtnit rrr
tain powers, and has advertised, JCB ln, hf, court ho"Es- Eliqibil
that she ha treated thousands 1,v of applicants will be
of individuals, said the commit
tee sent to Investigate.
Acting upon a complaint from
one of her "patients," the local
health committee visited her
premises. They reported that
they were "foul and filthy";
that Mrs. Stewart told them she
had a feeble-minded son who
had the mind of a six-year-old
who also had the "power," and
whom she said treated patients
when she was too busy. She
also informed them that she at
times boarded patients on the
premises and at the time there
was a blind man present whom
she stated she was treating for
the restoration of his sight.
After considerable discussion
as to the gullibility of individ
uals who would seriously con
sider any help from such a
source, the report was accepted,
and the city attorney, together
with the chief of police were
ordered to Immediately abate
i thf, 'nd, rd"
called "treatments to cease
and take any other action ne
cessary on the premises.
The members of the commit
tee stated that ln all of their
experience they had never ieen
premises used as living quarters
which were so filthy, odorous
and unkept.
